Must be able to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Bilingual Preferred Pay Rate: $20/hr Location: Orlando, FL The Florida Safety Council is searching for Driver Education Instructors to provide behind-the-wheel practical instruction to our community. No prior experience as a Driver Education Instructor necessary, and we also provide paid training. Who are we? JOB SUMMARY A Driver Education Instructor will provide behind-the-wheel driving instruction in a Florida Safety Council approved vehicle to students of all ages, promoting a safe learning environment while following all company and department policies and procedures. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Driver Education Instructors: • The instructor will train a student to operate a motor vehicle with practical instruction – through demonstration and verbal instruction. Practical instruction shall include the demonstration of all driving maneuvers required to pass the state motor vehicle road test, • Maintain punctuality for all appointments and ensure students receive the required number of hours of instruction, • Carry a State of Florida Class E Driver License and a Commercial Driver Instructor license to each lesson, • Meet with the student and their guardian prior to the driving lesson and following the driving lesson, • Ascertain, before giving driving instruction, that the student has a learner's permit or restricted license in their possession and is wearing the proper dress code, • Perform vehicle inspection with student prior to the start of each driving lesson, • Document mileage for each lesson, • Ensure no one, other than the students, be present in the vehicle while teaching a lesson. Exception: an interpreter, if needed., • Ensure seat belts are used by all vehicle occupants during each lesson, • Follow all State of Florida traffic laws, • Complete all necessary Florida Safety Council and State of Florida paperwork on trained students for recording purposes, • General maintenance of vehicles and sanitization kit supplies, • Comply with all standards of conduct/work rules, • Follow accurate payroll procedures set by the company, • Administrative work as needed, • Conduct road performance tests to determine applicants’ eligibility for driver's license, • Observe applicants’ ability throughout specified maneuvers and compliance with traffic safety rules on a pre-determined route, • Rate ability for each maneuver, • Inspect brakes, stop and signal lights, and horn to determine if vehicles are safe to operate MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS To become a certified commercial driving school instructor, you must not have any suspensions, revocations, cancellations, or disqualifications on your driving record for three (3) years prior to the date of the application. You must also have no felony or misdemeanor convictions, or pled no contest to, or had the adjudication withheld for any of these offenses within five (5) years of application. Additionally, you must have no driver license suspensions for any reason two (2) or more times within five (5) years of application, and no convictions of a DUI charge within 10 years prior to application. Please Note: Drug tests, motor vehicle record checks and criminal background checks, including fingerprinting, are required upon hire. All instructors shall: • Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, • Be a legal resident of the State of Florida, • Possess a valid Class E Florida driver license, • Possess a High School Diploma or GED. A college degree is preferred., • Not have any physical or mental impediments that prohibit the instructor from satisfactorily providing driving instruction, • Maintain a driving record which does not include more than three (3) chargeable motor vehicle crashes or violations as defined in Chapter 316, F.S. during any consecutive three-year period. Any traffic or other violation resulting in suspension or revocation of the driving privilege will automatically cause the suspension of the instructor’s certificate., • Complete and pass a State of Florida approved thirty-two (32) hour DITC course within six (6) months of hire. Pass the oral presentation and the written test prepared and administered by the Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles, Division of Driver Licenses, • Attend a State of Florida approved eight (8) hour DITC refresher course every five (5) years, • Complete one set of fingerprints every two (2) years, • Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, • Have the ability to work with over-confident and under-confident students, as well as their parents, guardians, or spouses, • Be in good physical condition, • Have no addictions to alcoholic beverages or other drugs PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching, • Operation of a motor vehicle, • Sitting in a motor vehicle for two (2) hours per student, with up to four (4) students per day, • May require lifting up to 25 pounds, • Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, the telephone and other office equipment, • Requires normal range of hearing and vision, • Interaction primarily with co-workers, students, and their parents or spouse Florida Safety Council is a(n): • Drug-free workplace with smoke-free campuses, • Equal opportunity employer, and all applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, disability, national origin, marital status, protected veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law, • E-Verify Employer
