Job Description Reports To: BRONX LEAP Program Director Location: Creston Campus – 125 E 181st Street, Bronx NY Hours: 8 - 10 hours / week; Non Exempt, September - June Schedule: Program Hours are Monday - Friday, 2pm - 6pm Salary: $19 / HR - $25 Job Summary: The Dance Instructor is responsible for leading dynamic, age-appropriate dance classes in a range of styles including—but not limited to—ballet, salsa, tap, ballroom, hip hop, and other forms of dance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both dancing and teaching, with proven choreography skills and a passion for working with children. They should be able to create an inclusive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment that encourages creativity, movement, and collaboration. The instructor will play a key role in helping students grow artistically, physically, and socially through dance. Major Duties: • Lead fun, structured, and age-appropriate dance classes that encourage creativity, skill-building, and teamwork., • Follow and adapt a sequenced dance curriculum to meet student needs and interests., • Submit lesson and unit plans ahead of time for review., • Incorporate literacy, cultural history, and academic themes into dance activities when possible., • Plan and produce a culminating performance or project at the end of each session., • Work closely with the Program Director to ensure classes align with program goals and support student growth., • Collaborate with group leaders and program aides by assigning roles and guiding classroom support., • Provide feedback to support staff on how to help students improve between classes., • Manage setup, cleanup, and storage of dance materials and equipment., • Attend staff meetings and required trainings., • Create a positive, respectful, and engaging environment for all participants., • Take initiative, think creatively, and bring energy and imagination to your work., • Must be at least 18 years old., • High School Diploma or GED required., • Experience and/or training relevant to the position required., • Candidates with some college, experience with adolescents and teaching/coaching youth are encouraged to apply., • Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for young people, • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills, • Ability to engage youth, while setting structure and limits in a group setting., • Energetic, motivated self-starter and a team player, • Excellent verbal and written communication skills., • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.
