As a member of the Product Test Engineering team, the Lab Technician reports to the Lab Manager and will work closely with engineers to support lab operations and PCB rework. This hands-on role requires precision, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality in assembling and testing electronic components. This is a full-time, on-site position, Monday through Friday, and is based in San Diego, CA. Key Responsibilities: • Perform advanced PCB rework and soldering, including:, • Fine-pitch SMT and micro-component soldering, • Removal and replacement (R&R) of fine-pitch ICs using hot-air and precision rework systems, • Multi-layer PCB repairs, micro-jumpers, and detailed trace work, • Connector replacements and precision mechanical rework, • Install dead-bug DoEs with high reliability (anchoring, epoxy work, fine-wire routing, etc.)., • Assist with RF IC and PCB bench testing under direct engineering guidance, including cable setup, board preparation, and simple measurement tasks., • Recommend rework techniques, equipment, and tools that improve repeatability, precision, and turnaround time (hot-air tools, nozzles, tweezers, microscopes, pre-heaters, jigs, etc.)., • Support prototype board modifications, debug-related rework, and iterative engineering changes., • Manage component sourcing, purchasing, vendor coordination, and tracking of electronic parts and consumables., • Handle shipping and receiving of boards, components, and lab equipment., • Maintain a clean, ESD-safe, and well-organized lab environment, including tool maintenance, consumable restocking, and instrument organization., • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification preferred, • At least three years of hands-on experience in advanced soldering, PCB rework, and electronics lab work., • Proficient with fine-pitch SMT, hot-air rework, micro-soldering, and precision component alignment., • Ability to interpret schematics, PCB layout references, and assembly drawings., • Strong attention to detail, steady artistry, and ability to follow structured rework processes., • Clear communication skills for coordinating with engineers, lab staff, and vendors., • Experience selecting optimal rework tools, materials, and methods for challenging assemblies., • Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-610, J-STD-001, IPC-7711/7721)., • Experience with high-density or multilayer PCBs, rigid-flex assemblies, coax prep, and other mechanical rework, • Skill in installing dead-bug experiments and wiring micro-scale test structures., • Experience supporting PCB bring-up or basic electrical bench testing.
