Job Description Job Title: HVAC Commercial Service Technician Job Description The HVAC Commercial Service Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of commercial and industrial HVAC systems. This role uses advanced knowledge of refrigeration theory, electrical schematics, pneumatic and electronic control systems, pipe fitting, welding and brazing, and mechanical layouts to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of equipment such as air conditioning units, chillers, boilers, furnaces, and rooftop units. Responsibilities • Perform maintenance, repair, and service on commercial and industrial HVAC systems, including air conditioning units, chillers, boilers, furnaces, and rooftop units., • Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues using proficient troubleshooting techniques and tools., • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, work plans, and mechanical layouts to plan and execute service tasks accurately., • Install, inspect, and repair refrigeration systems in accordance with industry standards and applicable regulations., • Utilize knowledge of refrigeration theory, pneumatic controls, and electronic control systems to identify and resolve system performance issues., • Perform pipe fitting, welding, and brazing work as needed for the installation and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems., • Conduct routine preventative maintenance to optimize system performance, extend equipment life, and reduce downtime., • Document all service activities, including diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and recommendations for future maintenance., • Collaborate with a field team of approximately 5–10 technicians and trades professionals to complete work safely and efficiently., • Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times on commercial construction sites., • Support multi-family new construction projects by commissioning and servicing HVAC systems in new apartment buildings., • Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members regarding job status, issues encountered, and any needed materials or tools. Essential Skills • Minimum of 2 years of HVAC service experience in commercial or residential environments., • Strong electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills for HVAC and refrigeration systems., • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical schematics, and work plans., • Hands-on experience with rooftop units (RTU), boilers, chillers, furnaces, and general HVAC service work., • Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic and electronic control systems., • Practical welding and brazing skills related to HVAC and refrigeration piping., • Knowledge of refrigeration systems and refrigeration theory., • EPA certification or experience working in compliance with EPA-related HVAC and refrigeration requirements., • Experience performing repair and preventative maintenance on commercial and industrial HVAC systems., • Ability to work safely on active commercial construction projects while consistently using PPE. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience servicing HVAC systems in multi-family housing or new apartment construction projects., • Experience in commercial or industrial HVAC environments., • Comfort working as part of a field team of 5–10 people on varying project sizes and locations., • Strong troubleshooting mindset with attention to detail and system performance., • Ability to adapt to different job sites and equipment types within the Rochester-area market. Work Environment This role is based on commercial construction projects throughout the greater Rochester area, including locations such as Irondequoit, Greece, and Henrietta. Most assignments involve multi-family housing projects, particularly new-build apartment developments, with all work performed in commercial and industrial settings. Technicians work as part of a field team of approximately 5–10 people, coordinating closely to complete projects safely and efficiently. You will work a regular daytime schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times on site, reflecting a strong emphasis on safety in active construction environments. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Rochester, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $38.00/hr.
