Primary Purpose: This position reports into the Utility Communication (UComm) Department and will provide technical support for the delivery and maintenance of IT solutions related to the Cyber, Fiber Optics, Firewall, Real Time Networks, SmartGrid, Transport (SONET/DWDM) and Wireless (RF) Communication technologies supporting Exelon. Position will provide technical support of the engineering, deployment, integration and ongoing support of high available telecommunications technologies throughout the Exelon Companies. This position supports the migration away from legacy communications to implement secure IP based network infrastructure in electric and gas substations along with other remote field locations throughout Exelon in accordance with established strategy, architecture, and compliance programs such as NERC-CIP to enable application communication. This role will work in collaboration with the network team, their leadership, enterprise business partners, vendors and project/design teams, to deliver secure & reliable transport and IP networks throughout Exelon's large & complex enterprise and real time operational environments. Note: This is an onsite position. Employees are required to be in office 5 days per week (Mon-Fri). Must reside & sit within the Philadelphia area. Occasional travel between office locations will be required to support business needs. Primary Duties: • Provide technical and/or engineering support for engineering, deployment and operation of IT solutions related to the Cyber, Fiber Optics, Firewall, Real Time Networks, SmartGrid, Transport (SONET/DWDM) and Wireless (RF) Communication technologies supporting Exelon. (40%), • Support strong client relationships while working with the Utility business implementing various telecommunications technology projects and on-going maintenance of these technologies. Interfacing with vendor partners supporting the construction of these backhaul technologies. (20%), • Assist IT Architecture and Engineering community in planning the introduction of new technologies and/or identifying the most appropriate technology choices to accomplish goals based on the Management Model. Ensure appropriate implementation and optimization of resources aligned with approved standards and architecture to meet the Utility Smart Grid application requirements. (15%), • Identify and provide Business and IT data on IT trends and issues. Propose advanced action items based on data trends discovered from data analysis. Participate in IT architecture review and standards setting. (10%), • Assist in the review of data protection requirements of business functions and document the available solutions and processes. (5%), • Enforce the established best practices, standards, procedures, guidelines and methodologies within the work area. (5%), • Complete assignments on time adhering to all SLAs. Determine appropriate time to market for assignments created and for assignments given to lesser experienced people. Show technical leadership by taking responsibility for projects and assignments. (5%) Job Scope:, • Develops technical knowledge and basic understanding of how utility telecommunications devices tie together to form a cohesive communications architecture including related networking technologies across Exelon., • Supports Exelon policy, standards and governance while designing solutions or solving issues., • Perform basic independent troubleshooting by looking through logs and can investigate and fix simple issues., • Help to troubleshoot complex issues., • Perform basic independent troubleshooting by looking through logs and can investigate and fix simple code issues., • Participates in small projects and can deliver project tasks under direct supervision. Minimum Qualifications:, • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science or related discipline and 2-4 years' relevant experience in telecommunication, electrical, computer engineering and related communication technologies or 3-6 equivalent combination of education and work experience., • Demonstrated ability to apply basic monitoring concepts and how tools are used to meet those requirements., • Training, direct exposure, or experience in working with various real-time networks., • Demonstrated ability to use technical resources and collaborate with colleagues across the IT organization to solve problems., • Understanding of basic concept of TCP/IP network., • Demonstrates an orientation and sensitivity to customer service., • Ability to learn dependency management., • Conduct activities and tasks with energy and persistence. Follows through to completion., • Ability to seek and act on guidance, and direction from team members who are more experienced., • Driver's license and access to a car to visit substations and remote field locations. Preferred Qualifications:, • Position is within the UCOMM organizations supporting fiber, SONET, and DWDM technologies., • Among the items to be worked in this position:, • Design, configure, install, test, cutover, maintain and operate the SONET network as well as the DWDM network., • Skills include familiarity with Nokia SONET and DWDM technology, JMUX, Tellabs DACS, Telco and Zhone channel banks, and M13’s., • Be able to provision and test various circuit types including DS0’s (OPX, ARDs, digital circuits (DDS and sub rate (RS232)), 4W analog, T1’s, DS3’s, 1Gbps, 10Bbps as well as the various multiplexing techniques between these standards., • Manage associated contractors on SONET and to a lesser extent, fiber networks., • Administer, troubleshoot, modify, work with ITOC, problem diagnosis and generate problem solutions associated with the SONET and DWDM network management platforms, preferable Megasys NMS as well as Nokia NSP platform and GE VistaNet., • Work in an operations environment for fiber, SONET, and DWDM. Understand the potential issues associated with these systems and demonstrate ability to proactively seek solutions prior to operations problems and demonstrate ability to expeditiously diagnose and troubleshoot problems as they arise., • As necessary, support after hours and weekend activity including installations, cutovers, emergency restorations, etc., • Weekly travel within service territory to perform associated responsibilities is a must., • Proactively deliver on customer requirements. Actively work side-by-side with customers, working in the field to obtain design inputs and overseeing constructions, testing and cutover., • Prepare and manage budget allocated for smaller projects and work through invoice processing to assure invoices are obtained, paid and billed back to various business units., • Become familiar with other telecom platforms that exist within Exelon but do not necessarily fall under this group’s responsibility., • Assist with design, installation, configuration, documentation, testing and cutover of simple to complex outside plant (OSP) fiber projects., • Develops design and process standards. Continuously seek process improvements and pro-actively seek the improvements with little to no supervision., • Assist with billing and invoicing issues on individual tasks, minor and major projects.
