Job Summary and Qualifications POSITION SUMMARY: A Sonographer is a diagnostic ultrasound professional who is qualified by professional credentialing, academic, and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the diagnostic medical sonographer includes those procedures, acts, and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Required: This employee is responsible for the independent operation of diagnostic medical equipment to expose various OB/GYN conditions, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. Sonography or ultrasonography is the use of sound waves to generate an image for assessment and diagnosis. This position will specialize in perinatal sonography. Ultrasound examinations include a variety of conditions ranging from routine OB/GYN to high risk obstetrical scans to include but not limited to, nuchal translucency, fetal anatomy survey, Doppler studies, biophysical profile, fetal echocardiograms and endo vaginal scans. Experience also includes ability to perform guidance for amniocentesis, chronic villus sampling, and other procedures commonly performed in a MFM program. This person must be able to work independently and as a part of a team as well have thorough knowledge of high risk conditions. The sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the sonographic program, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).Must be customer oriented to provide exceptional services to patients, physicians, visitors, and co-workers. Maintains awareness of patient privacy (HIPAA), confidentiality, and dignity at all times.
