Job Description Position Purpose & Summary A Functional Medicine Nutritionist evaluates clients' health concerns through a whole-person, science-based lens to identify root causes of symptoms and imbalances. They conduct comprehensive assessments that may include lifestyle analysis, dietary patterns, medical history, and lab data. Using this information, they develop personalized nutrition and lifestyle plans focused on improving metabolic function, reducing inflammation, supporting gut health, and promoting long-term wellness. Key responsibilities include educating clients on gut health, hormone health, nutrient-dense eating, supplement considerations, stress management, sleep hygiene, chronic illness, mindfulness, and movement strategies. Functional Nutritionists monitor client progress, adjust care plans as needed, and collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated, evidence-informed care. They also maintain detailed records, uphold ethical practice standards, and stay current with research in functional medicine and nutrition science. Essential Functions: • Counsel & coach patients on any dietary issues and healthy eating habits., • Develop nutrition plans while considering the client's budget and tastes., • Assess patients' and clients' nutritional and health needs by understanding their intake, as well as input from other clinicians. Work collaboratively with other modalities., • Evaluate if the meal plans have a positive effect on patients' health., • Create educational material about healthy eating habits., • Read and contribute to the latest nutritional research., • Speak to groups about the importance of nutrition to prevent specific diseases., • Document and proactively track patient progress., • Deliver "I Am Proud" service standards and department-specific signature touch points., • Establish cross-departmental channels of communication among teammates that are consistent and complete. Additional Duties and Responsibilities: • Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions, and current health plans to develop and implement dietary-care plans and provide nutritional counseling., • Consult with physicians and health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patients., • Advise patients on nutritional principles, dietary plans, diet modifications, and food selection and preparation., • Counsel individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life., • Periodically monitor Employee Café food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, food safety, sanitation, and quality standards., • Assist in coordinating recipe development and standardization, and develop new menus for food service operations., • Develop policies for food service or nutritional programs to assist in health promotion and disease control. Marginal Functions: • Perform other duties as assigned., • Interface positively with other departments, offering assistance when needed., • Minimum Knowledge & Skills:, • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a high degree of diplomacy and team involvement. Needs to be both analytical and detail oriented. Tact, empathy, and self-discipline required. Must be a confident communicator., • Ability to work independently and exercise judgment to resolve personnel and pro-duction issues that arise during daily operations., • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, team members, club members, and the general public., • Must be able to understand medical, spa and wellness related terminology including the various treatment modalities, equipment, and products. Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to assess and treat human maladies and issues. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive healthcare measures., • Understands and possess a high degree of confidentiality and discretion; awareness of the importance of protecting same., • People-oriented with an ability to adapt / respond to different types of personalities, good problem-solving skills., • Ability to be proactive and resourceful in attending to unanticipated situations; a quick learner, eager to help develop and evolve procedures., • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing patient, customer, and personal services. This includes a needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of satisfaction., • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. Selecting and using training / instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things., • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders., • Basic knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, leadership, and coordination of people and resources., • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems., • Must possess proficient computer skills and ability to learn database and patient scheduling systems, including EMR's, and MS Office, accounting programs, and project management software., • Formal Education and Job-Related Experience:, • Bachelor's (minimum) or Master's Degree, • Minimum five (5) years professional experience as a dietitian and/or nutritionist, preferably in a clinical, • Functional Nutrition and/ or Functional Medicine certification preferred., • Integrative nutrition experience preferred., • Experience related to food service at a luxury upscale hotel / resort a, • Post-Baccalaureate Certificate(s) awarded for completion of an organized program of study; designed for people who have completed a degree but do not meet the requirements for further academic, • License, Registration, and/or Certification Required:, • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, mandatory., • Communications:, • Daily – Verbal and written, • Weekly – Participating in meetings, conducting meetings/leading group discussions, and consulting to others., • Occasionally – Participate in one-on-one coaching sessions., • Teamwork and Collaboration: This position requires continuous teamwork as well as internal and cross-departmental communication.
