Job DescriptionJob Title: CNC Machinist / CNC Router Operator (3rd Shift) Job Description This role is responsible for the timely and accurate production of metallic machined parts using CNC mills and CNC routers in a manufacturing environment. You will set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC equipment, ensure each order is processed error-free, and complete all required documentation and computer entries associated with the CNC production process. The position focuses on cutting primarily aviation-grade metals to order specifications while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity on a consistent third-shift schedule. Responsibilities • Operate, set up, load, and unload CNC routers and CNC mills, primarily on 3-axis machines with Fanuc and Haas controls., • Carry out the complete production process for each job, including receiving orders from the Production Planner, allocating and pulling material, loading material into the machine, and running the job according to specifications., • Inspect products during and after machining using measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify that all parts meet customer and internal quality requirements., • Clean, label, and stage finished parts for the next step in the process, ensuring that scrap or stock is properly offloaded and any unused materials are returned as needed., • Program and troubleshoot CNC router functions and make necessary adjustments at the machine to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface quality., • Process each job through the production system, completing all required paperwork and computer data entries accurately and on time., • Regularly clean and maintain CNC equipment, tools, and machinery to ensure safe and reliable operation., • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area throughout the shift, following established 5S and housekeeping practices., • Follow all safety rules, regulations, quality standards, and procedures while working around hazardous machinery, sharp tools, and moving equipment., • Apply good problem-solving and time management skills to prioritize work, meet production schedules, and minimize downtime., • Collaborate with team members and cross-train others on equipment and processes as assigned., • Demonstrate a willingness to learn production and distribution methodologies and continuously improve machining skills., • Communicate effectively with supervisors, planners, and co-workers regarding job status, issues, and improvement opportunities., • Operate with high integrity and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, customers, and suppliers., • Perform physically demanding tasks such as standing for most of the shift, lifting and moving metal materials, and working around heat, noise, and humidity., • Work a consistent third-shift schedule and be available for overtime on Fridays as needed to meet production demands.Essential Skills, • High school diploma or equivalent., • Valid driver’s license., • At least 6 months of manufacturing experience operating CNC mills and CNC routers., • At least 6 months of experience operating 3-axis CNC mills and CNC routers using Fanuc controls; experience with Haas controls on 3-axis machines is required for machine setup and operation., • Two or more years of general machine operating experience., • Intermediate or higher CNC operation experience, including performing set-ups at the machine., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow written work instructions., • Good reading and math skills for measurements, tolerances, and basic calculations., • Good organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills., • Good written and oral communication skills for documenting work and communicating with the team., • Basic computer skills for data entry and processing jobs through the system., • Ability to measure accurately using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools., • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while also accepting direction and feedback., • Strong work ethic and self-motivation to meet production and quality goals., • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally, and to push or pull 25–50 pounds regularly., • Ability to stand more than three-quarters of the shift and frequently bend, climb, kneel, crawl, twist, balance, reach, and use hands or fingers to handle or feel., • Ability to work safely in an environment with noise, heat, humidity, sharp tools, and moving machinery., • Availability to work 3rd shift (Sunday–Thursday, 10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.) and to work overtime on Fridays when required.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Coursework in metalworking, blueprint reading, drafting, and math., • Two or more years of machine operating experience specifically in a metal fabrication or machining environment., • One or more years of CNC router operation experience., • Experience with Mastercam or similar CAM software., • Experience working with aviation-grade metals (e.g., 2000 and 7000 series) and marine-grade metals (e.g., 5000 series)., • Experience operating 3-, 4-, or 5-axis CNC equipment., • Familiarity with additional CNC control systems such as Mazak or Hyundai is a plus., • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability on CNC mills and routers, including resolving basic mechanical or program-related issues., • Experience working in a smaller, team-oriented manufacturing environment.Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a non-climate-controlled but well-maintained warehouse environment focused on cutting metallic materials to order specifications. The facility primarily processes aviation-grade metals (2000 and 7000 series) with some marine-grade metals (5000 series). Working conditions require frequent visual and auditory attention to identify needs for machine service and to monitor equipment performance. You will be exposed to hazardous machinery, sharp tools, moving objects, noise, heat, and humidity, with heaters used in winter and large fans and open doors providing airflow in warmer months. The role is physically demanding, involving standing for most of the shift, frequent reaching, bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting or moving metal materials. The standard schedule is third shift, Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., with Fridays reserved for overtime as needed. The team operates in a smaller facility with approximately a few dozen employees, fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere. The dress code is practical and safety-focused, typically jeans, a T-shirt, and steel-toed shoes, with a 30-minute lunch break provided during the shift.
