American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Kansas City, Missouri. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/27/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Apr 27, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • Work setting is a PCU at a 456-bed tertiary care, Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-recognized (5-time award winner) teaching hospital, • Orthopedic-focused PCU with high-acuity patients including post-op orthopedic trauma, total joints, ORIF, laminectomy, hand surgery, bladder suspension, and overflow GYN and eye surgeries, • High patient turnover with large daily volume of admissions, • Patient ratio is 1:5, with rare flex to 1:6, • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15), • 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule period (any combination of Friday, Saturday, Sunday), • On-call required: 1–2 weekdays per week and 2 weekends per 13-week contract, • Floating may be required between departments, units, and other PCU floors as needed, • Charting system: Epic, • Special equipment includes traction, bulb syringe, braces, casts, crutches, doppler, walker, hemovac, PICC line, midline, Alaris pump, and PCA, • Parking is freeRequirements, • Active RN license in both Missouri (or compact) and Kansas required and must be in hand prior to consideration, as floating between facilities may require both state licenses, • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required, • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown specialty experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days, • Level 1 trauma and academic teaching hospital experience required, • High-acuity orthopedic patient care experience required, • Proficiency with blood product administration, peripheral line care and management, PICC line management, and IV starts, • Experience with PCA medication management, • Skills required include ortho trauma care, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacement care, surgical drain management (plastics), wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions, • 2 professional references required: at least one must be supervisor level or above; the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from the past year, • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligibleAdditional Information, • Provide post-operative and progressive care nursing to a high-volume orthopedic and surgical patient population, • Charge RN assignments may be required as needed per unit, • Holiday shift coverage is required, • RTO is limited to a maximum of 7 days for the contract duration; RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of consideration, • Pre-employment online modules are required and must be completed prior to start (approximately 10–15 hours total), • Travel partners are not accepted for this position, • First-time travelers are welcome to apply With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
