Job Description The Madison Area YMCA is hiring a 2026 Summer Camp Kitchen Assistant to support daily food service operations at the F.M. Kirby Children’s Center during the summer camp season. Camp Dates: June 22, 2026 – August 27, 2026 What You’ll Do: As a Summer Camp Kitchen Assistant, you’ll support the Food Services Coordinator in preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks to campers and staff while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. Your work helps keep camp running smoothly—and campers fueled for fun. Responsibilities include: • Assisting with the preparation and serving of meals and snacks that meet Child Care Food Program requirements, • Maintaining clean, sanitary kitchen facilities and equipment, • Following all local and state Health Department regulations, • Assisting with purchasing food and kitchen supplies, • Supporting menu planning to ensure meals are healthy and appealing, • Monitoring food inventory and controlling food costs, • Keeping accurate records of meals served and quantities, • Supervising kitchen volunteers alongside the Food Services Coordinator, • Filling in for the Food Services Coordinator when neededThis Job Is for You If You:, • Enjoy working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, • Are organized, dependable, and attentive to detail, • Are comfortable working around children, families, and staff, • Take pride in cleanliness, safety, and consistency, • Are willing to work flexible hours during the camp seasonWhat You’ll Receive:, • Competitive pay, • Up to 40 hours per week (schedule may vary), • Training on food safety, sanitation, and camp procedures, • Eligibility for a 10-week stay incentiveQualifications:, • High school diploma or GED preferred, • Prior kitchen or food service experience preferred, • Strong customer service and communication skills, • Ability to work closely with administrative staff, teachers, children, and parents, • Willingness to complete job-specific training, including food safety certificationWorking Conditions:, • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while remaining alert, • Ability to safely handle kitchen tools and equipment, including knives, • Ability to bend, kneel, lean, and lift up to 50 pounds, • Possible exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids, • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations, including administering first aid Abuse Prevention Responsibilities All employees are expected to maintain boundaries, follow mandated reporting requirements, and uphold our policies and procedures to protect youth and participants. This includes attending required training, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors, and adhering to procedures that minimize risk. Supervisors are also responsible for providing oversight, feedback, and accountability to ensure staff and volunteers follow these standards.
