Join our team as a Structural Project Engineer – Bridges, where you’ll lead the design, inspection, and rehabilitation of bridge projects across Texas. In this role, you’ll manage small to mid-sized projects, contribute to larger, more complex initiatives, and provide technical expertise in structural performance, load paths, and rehabilitation strategies. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, ensure compliance with TxDOT and FHWA standards, and independently seal your work while upholding rigorous QA/QC practices. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and technicians, while directly contributing to the safety, reliability, and longevity of Texas bridge infrastructure. Once selected to join our team, you will: • Lead the analysis, inspection review, and design of small to mid-sized bridges and transportation structures, • Perform and review in-service routine bridge safety inspections conducted by technicians, • Conduct structural analysis, load ratings, and rehabilitation design for bridge systems and components, • Evaluate inspection reports, condition ratings, and historical data to inform engineering decisions, • Prepare engineering reports, cost estimates, and construction plans, • Conduct site visits and field observations to assess bridge conditions and construction progress, • Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, technicians, and contractors to deliver safe, code-compliant projects, • Ensure QA/QC compliance and independently seal engineering work products, • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Graduate Engineers and Project Engineers, • Support technical initiatives and bridge asset management efforts, • Assist with project coordination and resource planning KNOWLEDGE: • Comprehensive understanding of bridge structural systems, including superstructures, substructures, foundations, and lateral systems, • Strong knowledge of TxDOT and FHWA bridge inspection standards and procedures, • Familiarity with AASHTO codes and bridge design manuals, • Knowledge of structural analysis, CAD/BIM tools, and bridge design software, • Understanding of load rating methodologies, rehabilitation planning, and bridge maintenance practices, • Familiarity with TxDOT bridge standards, • Working knowledge of bridge scour principles and scour plans of action, • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, • Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance, • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard engineering tools, • 5+ years of experience in structural or bridge engineering, • Minimum of 6 months of NBIS bridge inspection experience, • Preferred: At least 2 years of bridge inspection experience in Texas, along with bridge design experience, • 1+ year of experience as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), • Experience with bridge load ratings, QA/QC reviews, and rehabilitation planning, • Experience preparing and reviewing recommendations for critical findings and maintenance actions, • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent), • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas OR ability to obtain Texas licensure within six (6) months of hire (in accordance with the Texas Engineering Practice Act), • Hybrid work environment with flexible work schedules and remote work options (role dependent), • Friday afternoons off, • Competitive base compensation, • Semi‑annual, company‑wide profit‑sharing bonus program tied to firm performance, • 401(k) retirement plan with company match, • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options, • Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options, including company HSA contributions, • Paid parental leave for eligible employees, • Paid time off starting at three weeks per year, plus paid holidays and floating holidays, • PTO exchange option, • Wellness and mental health resources, including an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), • Company‑paid life insurance and short‑ and long‑term disability coverage, • Paid military leave, • Employee referral bonus program Applicants must be legally authorized to work for Dunaway in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
