Responsible for providing respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities, under supervision of physician. Principal Accountabilities: 1. Evaluates prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and checks patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment, such as type and duration of therapy, and medication and dosages., 2. Renders aerosol medications and treatments to patients for inhalation, and positions patients to assist in breathing and prevent lung obstruction., 3. Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications that may be needed, which will be compatible with physician's orders., 4. Sets up and operates devices, such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators to support respiration and maintain patient's oxygen supply., 5. Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment, such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients., 6. Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes., 7. Performs chest physiotherapy on patient to remove mucus from their lungs and make it easier for them to breathe and assists patient in performing breathing exercises., 8. Assists in the performance of diagnostic testing by performing pulmonary function tests to be used by physician in diagnosis of case., 9. Observes equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy., 10. Consults with physician in event of adverse reactions., 11. Maintains patient's chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently, and orders repairs when needed., 12. Provides patient education and support for patients suffering from chronic lung disease., 13. Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel., 14. May care for premature infants with underdeveloped pulmonary systems, the elderly who have increased susceptibility to pulmonary and cardiac disease, and trauma patients., 15. Other related duties as assigned Education: • Associate of Science degree from an accredited respiratory therapist program, required., • 1+ years of Respiratory Care experience, • Critical care experience, highly preferred., • Previous experience with PFT studies and cardiopulmonary testing, highly preferred., • Active license for Respiratory Therapy in New Jersey, required. Under general supervision of the Medical Director, the Senior Psychiatrist is the psychiatric leader of the facility or program and works in close collaboration with other discipline leadership to ensure that safe, holistic, and evidence-based psychiatric care is provided to incarcerated patients with varying levels of mental health needs. A team-based approach to care is critical; one that incorporates all relevant mental health and medical disciplines as well as security staff. A major component of this position will be training, recruiting and retaining high quality staff and providing strong clinical support and oversight, leadership and mentorship for existing staff. Responsibilities • Develops workflows, policies and quality metrics for their dedicated area in close coordination with the Medical Director and Chief of Mental Health, • Recruits, hires and trains staff to provide care in their dedicated area, • Ensure the highest possible quality of mental health care both in the facility and in collaboration with the other jail facilities in the system. This includes active participation in quality improvement, staff and patient safety initiatives, treatment supervision, and personnel mentorship and management., • In coordination with other leadership: design, implementation, ongoing review, and monitoring of relevant clinical facility-specific procedures, policies and operating manuals, • Direct clinical individual and group supervision of the relevant psychiatric prescribing staff, including psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and psychiatric physician assistants. Clinical level judgement is needed in the daily supervision of radiological functions and patient care, and departmental projects. Responsibilities include: • Review exam orders, consult with radiologist, schedule patients and arrange for transportation as indicated., • Identify patient and document all information pertinent to final report in the RIS and on images (PACS)., • Prepare all patients (infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric) for radiological procedures requested by the clinician. Correctional Health Services The New York City jail system is the second largest in the nation. A significant number of individuals in the NYC jail system will receive care on the mental health service. The service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, clinics in each of the facilities, substance use treatment, medication assisted treatment (MAT), integrated re-entry services that includes alternatives to incarceration, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city. Furthermore, CHS has been engaged in an effort to better identify people with neurodevelopmental/neurocognitive disorders and to utilize psychological testing to connect people to services in the community (e.g., with OPWDD). The Supervising Psychiatrist is a psychiatric leader of a facility, clinical area, or program and works in close collaboration with the Mental Health Unit Chief, Clinical Supervisors, and Senior Psychiatrist (if applicable) to ensure that safe, holistic, and evidence-based psychiatric care is provided to incarcerated patients with varying levels of mental health needs. A team-based approach to care is critical; one that incorporates all relevant mental health and medical disciplines as well as security staff. A major component of this position will be training, recruiting and retaining high quality staff and providing strong leadership and mentorship for existing staff. Detailed Tasks: • Ensure the highest possible quality of mental health care both in the facility and in collaboration with the other jail facilities in the system. This includes active participation in quality improvement, staff and patient safety initiatives, treatment supervision, and personnel mentorship and management., • In coordination with the facility-specific Mental Health Unit Chief, design, implementation, ongoing review, and monitoring of relevant clinical facility-specific procedures, policies and operating manuals, • Direct clinical individual and group supervision of the relevant psychiatric prescribing staff, including psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and psychiatric physician assistants.
