Job Description Position: Seasonal Worker (Leaf Collection & General DPW Tasks) Department: Department of Public Works Location: Tenafly, New Jersey Status: Seasonal/Temporary (approximately late summer through late fall; exact dates to be determined) Overview: The Borough of Tenafly seeks reliable, hardworking individuals to join the DPW team as Seasonal Workers. Primary duties include curbside leaf collection during peak fall season, with additional time allocated to routine maintenance, street sweeping, park clean-up, and other municipal field tasks as needed. The ideal candidate is physically able, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or as part of a small crew. Key Responsibilities: • Collect and transport leaves and yard waste from residential areas following the DPW schedule and routes., • Operate light-duty equipment and hand tools as assigned (leaf blowers, rakes, shovels, tarps, carts, etc.)., • Assist with street sweeping, park maintenance, playground area clean-up, and other municipal grounds maintenance tasks., • Load and unload materials, ensure work zones are safe, and follow traffic safety rules., • Assist with snow and ice operations if needed and within the seasonal period., • Perform routine maintenance tasks (trash pickup, litter control, minor building/grounds upkeep) as directed., • Maintain accurate records of routes, hours, materials used, and any issues encountered., • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read, write, and follow simple instructions., • Valid driver's license preferred; ability to drive a public works vehicle or operate equipment with appropriate training is a plus., • Physical ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, including lifting, bending, and standing for long durations; ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions., • Excellent reliability, punctuality, and strong work ethic., • Ability to follow directions, work independently, and work cooperatively with a team., • Prior experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or municipal work is desirable but not required., • Season: Approximately late summer through late fall; dates will be determined based on Town needs and weather., • Schedule: Typically 20–30 hours per week; specific shifts may include mornings, afternoons, or weekends. Overtime possible during peak leaf season or weather events., • Hourly wage commensurate with experience and Borough of Tenafly pay scale., • Paid training provided; safety orientation and PPE provided.
