Job Description Plant Production Manager Job Summary: The Production Manager, reports directly to the Plant Manager, serves as a member of the Plant Leadership Team, and is responsible for providing production Leadership in assigned areas(s). This role has full responsibility and accountability for all aspects of managing Batching and Production, including but not limited to people’s safety; quality; cost; service; people leadership; maintenance; and project implementation. This role is also responsible for daily and long-term plant and company goals by providing proactive, efficient, & reliable leadership for two shifts in a five-day work environment. This role is directly responsible for one supervisor and up to 100 indirect reports. Essential Job Functions (listing most important first): • Independently leads teams and executes projects to eliminate root causes of manufacturing failures, • Coaches, directs, facilitates, trains, and develops supervisors to work efficiently while supporting the manufacturing mission, • Effectively work as part of, or lead cross-functional teams to deliver against business objectives, • Ability to make departmental assessments, identify problems, develop solutions, as well as articulate a plan to the Plant Manager, peers, and direct reports that yield performance improvements, • Lead efforts to increase employee satisfaction and strengthen employee culture through significant floor time and consistent application of work rules, • Accountable for performance management of salaried staff. Ensures appropriate employment decisions and issue resolution through proper investigation and involvement of key stakeholders., • Responsible for management, development and/or assessment of training plans that ensure all members of the department are aligned with company, plant, and department objectives, • Accountable for adherence to defined processes and systems to include production tracking and quality control systems, analyzing safety, quality control, production, maintenance, and other operational reports to detect production problems, • Understand the key performance indicators that support continued business growth and deliver daily, monthly, and annual team targets., • Responsible for creating and executing a culture of continuous improvement in safety incidents, quality complaints, labor productivity, and downtime reduction, • High school diploma or GED is required; bachelor’s degree preferred., • 5 to 7 years previous management experience in a manufacturing environment, • Ability to inspire and provide excellent leadership to broad and diverse workforce teams, including supervisors and large hourly teams, • Ability to overcome resistance to change, adapt to change, and lead change, • Possesses the hunger & humility to learn, • Proven track record of ability to positively motivate others and deliver business results with a high-level urgency., • Strong knowledge of good manufacturing practices and process improvements that includes but is not limited to manufacturing key performance indicators, 6 sigma, and lean manufacturing, • Technical ability with problem solving critical thinking and analytical skills, • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft office, • Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills to understand all details of documents in English, proficient in written English to accurately document findings in a written report. Must always remain tactful in communications., • Proficiency in basic math and computer skills to check production output according to specifications and submit reports on performance and progress, advanced skills in MS Office., • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with hands-on problem-solving skills in a manufacturing environment; experience in using various types of manufacturing machinery and tools., • Strong attention to detail, dependability, and excellent organizational skills; must be observant and detail oriented to identify and report deviations from schedule or outputs., • Requires reasoning ability to be able to identify/recognize inventory errors, utilize investigative and analytical abilities for when a problem arises and initiate resolution; ability to interpret instructions and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must know the definition of plan-do-check-act (PDCA) and understand team concepts & team building techniques., • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership ability, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to work well with others; consistent display of a positive attitude & high-level energy and commitment, strong initiative, and willingness to accept additional responsibilities. level energy and commitment., • Time management skills to effectively multitask, balance multiple priorities and manage competing tasks and/or needs at one time. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
