Job DescriptionDescription: Job Summary: Responsible for providing professional nursing care, as it directly relates to infusions, for patients including assessment, treatment, care planning, and medical care evaluation by following established standards and practices. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff, and physicians. Duties include but are not limited to: Essential Job Duties: 1. Obtains patient consent for care and ensures patient confidentiality. Obtains and documents health history, information on chief complaint, vital signs, and health risk factors, and assesses disease condition. Provides patient care based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations., 2. Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response., 3. Delegates as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act. Refers to/consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns. Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions., 4. Documents patient assessment and intervention data using established medical record forms/automated systems and documentation practices., 5. Participates in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes. Tracks quality assurance data and monitors for acute and chronic care management., 6. Maintains/reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Posts tests and examination results., 7. Responds to/refers to incoming patient treatment-related phone calls., 8. Maintains patient confidentiality & follows all HIPAA guidelines., 9. Covers on floor if necessary – to assist rooming patients, and assume Medical Assistant job duties during moments of critical short staffing., 10. Practice cost containment when using supplies., 11. Submit all paperwork and/or documentation in a timely fashion., 12. Clean and restock infusion room/exam rooms., 13. Order infusion supplies, 14. Ensure all products kept and used have not expired and replace them when necessary., 15. Act as a resource to other medical support staff when appropriate., 16. Maintain licensure, certification, and other educational requirements as well as maintaining proficiency in technical skills and professional capabilities., 17. Attend department and staff meetings; contribute suggestions/recommendations., 18. Participate in OSHA Health and Safety Program. Failure to comply with the requirements of OSHA Safety Program would be addressed as any disciplinary action problem as discussed in the Employee Handbook., 19. Maintain a clean and organized workspace., 20. Assist with coordinating any office seasonal shots alongside other RN’s at IMA., 21. Maintain a neat and professional appearance as specified in the dress code policy., 22. All other duties as requested. · Infusion: • Mix medications for infusion based on prescribed standards set forth., • Start and monitor IV medication with Remicade, Biologic, & all other Infusion patients., • Assist the Billing Department with pre-authorizing infusions with the patient’s insurance company, during moments of short staffing in the Billing Department., • Schedule infusion appointments in the electronic EHR system., • Prioritize workload to optimize patient care within a reasonable time frame and notify the supervisor of any inability to carry out specific duties., • Frequently evaluate the quality assurance of patient care. Secondary Job Duties - when covering on floor (but is not limited to): · Rooming patients: • Assist patients from the lobby to the designated exam room., • Obtain a full set of vital signs including height and weight., • Collect appropriate data regarding the patient’s chief complaint., • Prepare patient and chart by obtaining medical records, labs, radiological and other procedural reports for the physicians. · Messages • Process patient phone calls in a timely fashion., • Prioritize messages and callbacks in an appropriate manner., • Obtain essential information regarding patient concerns and/or requests., • Consult with physician and/or managers as appropriate. -, • Document all information in the patient chart. · Patient Care • Scheduled appointments and procedures., • Scheduled medical procedures as needed, chaperones and assist with procedures (if needed)., • Educate patients regarding diet, blood pressure, self-injection, medication administration, etc. when authorized by the physician. Requirements: Current state registered nurse license. Current CPR certificate. Knowledge: 1. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, regulations, and practices to give and evaluate patient care., 2. Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; and community resources. Understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies. Familiarity with state law on nursing care, nurse practice guidelines, and clinic policies and procedures., 3. Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation requirements and federal/state laws related to the release of health care information., 4. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment. Skills: 1. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care., 2. Skill in time management, problem-solving, multitasking, prioritizing, and medical care coordination., 3. Skill in initiating appropriate crisis interventions and emergency response., 4. Skill in patient triage in person and on the phone., 5. Skill in preparing/maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence. Abilities: 1. Ability to analyze options and then, 2. Counsel patients and families about choices and make referrals to other providers and resources., 3. Ability to engage clients and families in the development and implementation of a care plan., 4. Ability to read and interpret physicians’ orders and notes from other providers., 5. Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections and measure results., 6. Ability to maintain quality control standards., 7. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations., 8. Ability to communicate clearly.
