Our diverse service portfolio spans housing, behavioral health, youth development, and anti-human trafficking initiatives, operating across multiple locations Position Summary The Staff Accountant will support the financial operations of Lifeline Community Services, a nonprofit organization (120+ employees), with a focus on government contract billing, budgeting support, and monthly close accounting processes. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with grant and contract requirements, and strong internal controls. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a mission-driven environment. Core Responsibilities The incumbent in this position will perform the following duties and responsibilities along with other duties that may be assigned: Government Contracts & Billing • Prepare and submit accurate and timely invoices for government contracts, grants, and other funding sources, • Track contract budgets, expenditures, and billing schedules to ensure compliance with funding requirements, • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding reimbursements, • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local grant regulations and reporting requirements, • Maintain supporting documentation for audits and funder reviews Budgeting & Financial Planning • Assist in the development of department annual budgets and periodic forecasts, • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and provide variance analysis, • Work with program managers to ensure alignment between financial plans and program activities RFP & Grant Support • Assist in preparing financial components of grant proposals and RFP submissions, • Collaborate with program and development teams to ensure accurate budgeting and compliance, • Track awarded grants and ensure proper financial setup and reporting Month-End Close • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules, • Assist with timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes, • Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure compliance with accounting policies Compliance & Reporting • Support preparation for audits and ensure proper documentation is maintained, • Assist in generating internal and external financial reports, • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and grant requirements Internal Leadership and External Representation • Serve as a collaborative member of Lifeline's senior leadership team, contributing to agency-wide planning, strategy, and culture., • Represent the agency in community coalitions, professional associations, conferences, and university partnerships, • Ensure clinical work is aligned with Lifeline's mission, values, and commitment to equity, innovation, and impact., • Completes other related duties as assigned Required Education and Experience • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP), • Proficiency in Microsoft excel, • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, • Highly organized, strategic thinker with excellent communication and project management skills Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Sage Intacct accounting software, • 2–4 years of accounting experience in a nonprofit environment, • Experience with grant accounting and fund accounting Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Establish and maintain effective working relationships while showing open-mindedness and a collaborative spirit.
