Job DescriptionJob Title: Level 2 Stall Build Truck Technician Job Description This role focuses on advanced modification and assembly of heavy-duty commercial trucks in a clean, organized production environment. You will perform stall-based builds from start to finish, with an emphasis on transmission work, suspension changes, steering conversions, and related mechanical and electrical modifications. You will start at a Level 3 technician tier and have the opportunity to progress as you demonstrate skill, independence, and leadership in a high-demand, growing operation. Responsibilities • Perform full stall build modifications on heavy-duty trucks from start to finish in a single bay, including wire routing, steering conversions, suspension swaps, hydraulic all-wheel-drive setups, and PTO installations., • Carry out Variable Power Divider (VPD) installations in single-stall environments, including dropping transmissions, installing VPD units, performing suspension spring swaps, and completing associated wiring and installation of pre-fabricated parts., • Complete extensive assembly and modification work based on printed picture work instructions, following standardized processes rather than traditional blueprints., • Work on sit-down dual-drive line trucks across multiple stages, including decontenting and removal of interior panels and equipment, cab flooring modifications, installation of right-hand drive (RHD) floor plates, routing under-cab airlines, trimming kick plates and fenders, and reassembling steering and dash components., • Support decontenting activities in line environments by removing interior cab parts and preparing for subsequent structural and cab height modifications., • Use hand tools, air impacts, battery impacts, socket wrenches, drills, and related equipment throughout the shift to perform mechanical and assembly tasks safely and efficiently., • Execute plug-and-play style electrical routing and connections based on work instructions, including installation of wiring harness extensions and basic harness repinning as needed., • Install second steering wheels and perform basic to intermediate modifications on entry-level lines as part of onboarding and skill development., • Follow quality standards to ensure that all modifications meet OEM-level fit, finish, and functional requirements for major truck brands., • Read, interpret, and follow detailed picture-based work instructions to sequence tasks correctly and maintain consistent build quality., • Collaborate with a small team of technicians or work independently depending on the department and stage of the build, communicating effectively to coordinate workflow., • Maintain a clean and organized work area, properly store tools, and adhere to facility safety rules and procedures at all times., • Support production goals and manufacturing deadlines by meeting daily output expectations while maintaining high-quality workmanship., • Participate in training and onboarding activities, incorporating feedback from leads and supervisors to improve speed, accuracy, and technical proficiency., • Identify and report any issues, defects, or process improvements related to mechanical, electrical, or structural modifications on trucks.Essential Skills, • Hands-on heavy truck experience, including working on commercial or heavy-duty vehicles., • Practical experience pulling and swapping transmissions on heavy-duty trucks, ideally including Freightliner-specific transmission work., • Experience with heavy-duty suspension systems, including suspension changes and spring swaps., • Ability to perform plug-and-play electrical work, including routing wiring, connecting harnesses, and following picture-based electrical instructions., • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools such as air impacts, battery impacts, socket wrenches, drills, and related automotive tools for a full workday., • Strong mechanical aptitude with a background as an automotive technician, mechanic, assembler, or similar role in automotive or heavy truck environments., • Ability to read and follow printed picture work instructions accurately and consistently without relying on traditional blueprints., • Capability to perform physically demanding work, including standing for most of the shift, working around large vehicles, and handling tools and components safely., • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, reliable modifications that meet OEM standards., • Ability to work independently in a single stall or collaboratively in small teams while maintaining productivity and safety., • Willingness to start at a Level 3 technician tier and progress through demonstrated skill, tool readiness, and performance.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • background or formal education in automotive technology, diesel technology, or a related mechanical field., • Experience rebuilding transmissions in addition to pulling and swapping them., • Previous exposure to wiring and electrical systems on trucks or automotive platforms, beyond basic plug-and-play work., • Experience with steering conversions, PTO installations, hydraulic all-wheel-drive systems, and similar advanced modifications., • Familiarity with body, collision, or heavy truck body work, including preparation for paint, is beneficial for cross-functional support., • Possession of a personal tool set that includes most of the following: air impacts, battery impacts, socket wrenches, drills, and assorted sockets and gaskets., • Any relevant industry certifications in automotive or diesel technology are welcomed and will be given strong consideration., • Demonstrated ability to work in an assembly-line or production environment with time-based targets and quality standards., • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical or fitment issues during modifications., • Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset to work effectively with leads, peers, and other departments.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a very clean and organized truck modification facility that operates primarily on a first-shift schedule. Standard hours are 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional opportunities to work later on weekdays until approximately 4:00 p.m. and occasional Saturday work as needed. The facility is not climate controlled, so temperatures may vary with the seasons. Depending on the department and stage of the build, you may work independently in a single stall or as part of a small team of 2–3 technicians. The environment is production-focused and tool-intensive, with frequent use of hand tools, air impacts, battery impacts, socket wrenches, drills, and other automotive equipment around large commercial trucks. Safety procedures, organized work areas, and clear work instructions support a professional atmosphere where technicians can focus on high-quality, precision modifications. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
