We are seeking a Mental Health Counselor for the Crotona Park residence which is The Doe Fund's newest permanent supportive housing program for homeless men and women living with HIV/AIDS. The program is designed to provide long-term residential care and twenty-four-hour support services in a community environment that maximizes residents' independence while ensuring their physical and emotional security and well-being. The majority of Crotona Park residents will be referred by the New York City HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) and some by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). The Case Manager/Mental Health Counselor is responsible for providing supportive case management services to the HASA-funded residents. The successful candidate will have strong clinical and communication skills along with an understanding of working with the HIV/AIDS population. Required Qualifications * Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field; * Licensed in or Limited Permit holder in New York State, in mental health counseling, social work, or related field; * Preferred 3-5 years of experience in direct social/clinical service with families and a knowledge of trauma, sexual violence, domestic violence, and gender issues; * Fluency in one or more South Asian language, especially Bengali, Hindi, and Urdu; * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; * Ability to engage with diverse communities and audiences; * Strong administrative, writing, and organization skills; * Experience working with multiple staff, volunteers, and program responsibilities; * Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends; * Ability to work independently but also as a member of a team. The Counselor will conduct these assessments and complete these treatment plans according to a strict timeline, ensuring that the process is completed as quickly as possible. The goal is to provide information that will enable defense attorneys, prosecutors, and judges to resolve cases as quickly as possible, significantly reducing the time people spend in pretrial detention. An essential and dynamic feature of the Counselor’s role will be close collaboration with key external stakeholders. Our goal is help those who have experienced physical, emotional or other forms of abuse to establish long-term safety and healing from the effects of trauma. Safe Horizon uses a client centered, trauma informed, anti-oppressive approach to supporting clients. Safe Horizon recognizes that families who have experienced intimate partner violence may want to or need to stay in contact with the person causing harm in the family. The Safe Way forward program (SWF) was designed to engage family members with support to assist in healing and explore ways for families to maintain contact where safe to do so.
