Sourcebooks, the fifth-largest publisher in the U.S., is seeking a Publicity & Marketing Manager, Nonfiction who brings strong publicity instincts, strategic thinking, and the ambition to grow with the publishing world. This position sits at the center of our expanding nonfiction program and plays a key role in shaping how our books influence the national conversation. While the role leans toward publicity leadership, it requires a clear understanding of how publicity works in concert with marketing and sales. The right candidate will see the big picture of a campaign—how messaging, media, retail, and consumer touchpoints connect—and be ready to contribute across functions when needed. We publish authors who inform, challenge, and inspire. Your work will help them reach wider audiences, break into new media spaces, and build lasting visibility. This position can be hybrid in Naperville or NYC, or fully remote in the following states Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. This is an exempt, salaried position with a range of $70,000-$80,000. We determine starting pay based on a thorough evaluation of job-related factors, including geographic location, market conditions, relevant experience, training, and education. This process ensures a fair and competitive salary that aligns with both the company and the candidate’s qualifications. What You’ll Do As a key member of the nonfiction team, you will develop and execute smart, dynamic publicity-driven campaigns across memoir, history, true crime, lifestyle, cooking, pop culture, celebrity, social issues, and more. Collaboration, agility, and strong judgment are essential in our fast-moving environment. You will: • Drive national media coverage across traditional, digital, broadcast, podcast, and emerging outlets., • Cultivate and deepen meaningful media relationships with NPR, The New York Times, national morning shows, cable news, podcasts, and leading digital platforms., • Create standout campaign moments through bookstore events, polished author tours, and conference presence., • Engage online communities, applying insight into platforms such as TikTok and Instagram to expand reach., • Partner closely with marketing colleagues to ensure alignment across advertising, influencer outreach, social media, and retail initiatives., • Step into marketing responsibilities as campaigns require, contributing to positioning, messaging, copy development, and cross-channel coordination., • Provide clear, confident communication to authors, agents, and internal partners., • Present campaign plans at Sales Conference and represent nonfiction strategy internally., • Track, measure, and report results with accuracy and attention to detail.Occasional travel for author events and tours and close collaboration with high-profile nonfiction authors and their teams are core components of this role.What You Bring: You bring enthusiasm for publishing, a strong sense of ownership, and the adaptability needed to thrive in a visible, fast-paced culture. You may currently be in a senior publicist or associate role and are ready to take on greater strategic responsibility. You will excel here if you: • Have approximately 4–8 years of publicity experience at a book publisher., • Demonstrate a strong track record in media placement, author events, and tour management., • Think strategically and understand how publicity supports and strengthens the overall marketing campaign., • Are comfortable thinking on your feet and responding to real-time media opportunities., • Are actively building and deepening media relationships., • Communicate with clarity, confidence, and good judgment across internal and external partners., • Bring experience with or interest in adult nonfiction., • Feel motivated by an energetic environment that values initiative, growth, and thoughtful collaboration.This role offers the opportunity to lead impactful publicity campaigns while broadening your scope across marketing, contributing meaningfully to the continued growth of our nonfiction program.
