I could sit in there until plasmolysis sets in. Part of the experience is just sitting in peace and quiet, but the other half is when I get out I feel like my batteries are recharged. A simple shower doesn't do that, and trying to take a bath in a regular bathtub is kind of undignified and lacking. This walk-in tub even has a nice ledge behind the seat. Sometimes the cat hops up on the ledge to sleep on while I sit in the tub. For the sake of an impartial review I'm trying to think of one unpleasant thing to say but I'm really having a hard time thinking of one. Yes, these are expensive but before I made this purchase I spent 4 years visiting showrooms, doing online research, attending trade shows, going through Consumer Reports magazine articles, and talking to neighbors that had bought one. I really took my time and did my research, no impulse buy here. The short of it is that Shugarman's was easily the #1 choice for San Diego. Yes, there were other San Diego installers but they weren't even close to what Shugarman does. Our #2 choice was some company in Colorado, not even these other locals. Shugarman's is really the only way to go if you're looking for a tub in San Diego. Ultimately you're going to pay the same price either way. You can do it at once and have it professionally installed, or you can have it done by one of the cheaper guys, only to spend time repairing it over the years. No thanks. Let's just do it at once and never look back. Also, their price was on par with the industry. They're also the only company that does it all themselves. You don't have to be a project manager and call for different contractors ( drywall, electrical, etc. ) Shugarman's handles it all, you pay one price and they coordinate it all to happen over one or two days, tops. We had special requirements that made us a 3-day install, but Chreen and her crew were so good, they did it in just two days with no mistakes. Everything looks so professional. I'm so glad we didn't go with any of the other companies whose showrooms we visited. I saw things with those other guys that gave me doubts, but didn't have that same feeling with Shugarman's; no red flags whatsoever. When Sean came we weren't expecting a literal power point presentation and obviously you can't help but feel like it's a bit of a hard sell. Regardless, he was extremely helpful, patient, and took his time to answer all our questions. The main selling points for us were: 1. It made a huge difference seeing everything in person—even changed our original design choices—and solidified that we wanted to go with Shugarman. Installation Process: Shugarman was responsive to all questions and excellent at communicating every step of the way. Ivan was our installer and single-handedly installed everything in just 2 days. The whole time he would come out to keep us updated on his progress, double-check the positioning and placement of each piece, and ensure everything was done right. Super impressed by his skill and workmanship. As part of our bathroom renovation we did the shower first meaning the shower glass panel would be the last thing to be installed. Again, Shugarman was flexible, accommodating, and able to work with our other contractors to install it at the ideal time for us. Issue Correction: As mentioned above, our whole bathroom had been demoed and Shugarman only does shower/bath installation. Once our contractors finished fixing everything up, adding drywall, plastering, etc. it became apparent the shower ceiling was a bit higher because our bathroom has double drywall panels and this had been missed. We contacted Shugarman about it, they sent someone to assess the issue and they agreed to fix it free of charge. Not only that, but their solution to adding more drywall and brining the shower ceiling down was done with such precision that it didn’t do any damage to the newly plastered walls. Literally not even a scuff. Not only that but while he was there, Ivan noticed the caulking installed by a different contractor breaking around the shower and fixed it immediately. Post-Installation: I absolutely love the new shower, everything feels top quality, runs perfectly, and it’s extremely easy to clean compared to what I had before. Overall: Shugarman went above and beyond, did everything they said they would, acted with care, integrity, and gave us the type of customer service that just makes you feel truly at ease while dealing with all the other nonsense of renovation projects. Job Description Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights invites applications for the full-time position of Staff Attorney to be based in Los Angeles, California. This position is a unique opportunity for an attorney to join a passionate team made up of social workers, attorneys, and administrative staff, to engage in interdisciplinary written and oral best interests advocacy on behalf of children in immigration removal proceedings. Young Center is appointed as independent Child Advocate for unaccompanied and separated immigrant children and advocates for their best interests with respect to their custody, placement, conditions of release, reunification with caregivers, repatriation, and their immigration proceedings. Young Center does not directly represent children in immigration matters but works closely with the legal service providers who may represent the children’s legal interests. The Staff Attorney will help recruit, train, and supervise bilingual and bicultural volunteer Child Advocates—teachers, law students, social workers, community members—who will work one-on-one with children. The Staff Attorney will apply their legal knowledge and skills to identify issues impacting children’s rights and best interests. ABOUT THE YOUNG CENTER The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is a national organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the rights and best interests—safety and well-being—of immigrant children in the United States. The Young Center’s Child Advocate Program (CAP) serves as the federally-appointed bests interests representative for unaccompanied and separated immigrant children in federal custody. Through CAP’s state initiative, we also serve and are appointed by the Superior Courts of New Jersey as independent Child Advocates to children released from federal custody into the New Jersey community. Child Advocates meet with children and learn their stories in order to identify and advocate for their best interests through an interdisciplinary, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive lens. The Young Center’s Policy Program fights for wholesale reform of the immigration system while pursuing immediate changes in policy and practice that center children’s rights and best interests in all decisions. The Technical Assistance Program, the Young Center’s newest program, offers intersectional expertise and critical resources to advocates and service providers working with immigrant children involved in child welfare and other state court systems. The Young Center has offices in Houston, San Antonio, and Harlingen, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; New York, New York; Washington, D.C.; Phoenix, Arizona; Los Angeles, California; and Grand Rapids, Michigan. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Advocate for children’s best interests before government or other interested parties, • Supervise volunteers appointed as Child Advocate for unaccompanied and separated children in federal custody in or near Los Angeles and across the United States as needed, • Serve as Child Advocate to a limited number of cases or as needed, • Visit children as needed and communicate with caregivers, family members and stakeholders, • Provide internal case consultation and case support involving the state, federal, and international best interests legal principles and immigration law for the Los Angeles office, • Support the local and national efforts to recruit, train, support, and retain volunteer Child Advocates, • Participate in internal and external working groups, • Meet regularly with local stakeholders (government field staff, facility staff, immigration judges, ICE officers, and legal service providers); collaborate on presentations to local stakeholders; attend case staffings or other stakeholder meetings; and speak about the Child Advocate Program at local, regional, and national events, • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders or organizations in the community, • Assist the team in meeting case goals and other deliverables for the government contract and private grants, • Capture accurate and timely data management to inform reports to the government, other funders, and internal Young Center departments regarding children served, case outcomes, program metrics, and current trends, • Participate in a supportive, collaborative work culture that allows for creative, thoughtful, high-quality, and effective interdisciplinary advocacy, • In collaboration with the site Managing Social Worker and/or Deputy Program Director (Social Worker), consult with social worker colleagues to develop child-centered advocacy through a trauma-informed lens that identifies and advocates for the best interests of unaccompanied and separated children, • Under the supervision of the Managing Attorney and with input from the Deputy Program Directors (Attorney and Social Worker), draft and submit best interests determinations to immigration judges, asylum officers, attorneys, and federal agencies, applying state, federal, and international law and incorporating social science research and social work best practices, including, but not limited to trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches, • Actively engage with colleagues and supervisors in developing and editing interdisciplinary best interests determinations, • Accompany children to court hearings and interviews related to their immigration case, • Under the supervision of the Deputy Program Director (Social Worker), assess which children may need additional supportive and/or mental health services and accompany them to appointments as needed, • Other duties as assignedMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:, • J.D. and license to practice law or ability to acquire license within the first year of employment, • Generally, has prior experience working with children and/or youth, trauma survivors, or migrant/refugees/unaccompanied children to demonstrate an understanding of the population we serve.
