Job Description Definition and Examples of Work • Plans, lays out, orders parts, and assigns work to employees., • Outlines procedures for repair work in highly complicated and difficult jobs., • Checks work during progress and upon completion., • Recommends tire and battery replacements and oil to be used in automotive equipment., • Periodically inspects condition of KTA fleet., • Determines material, equipment, and supplies needed, and prepares necessary documentation for requisition., • Assists with fleet management., • Performs preventive maintenance to keep vehicles in good operating condition during their operating life and establishes preventative maintenance/inspection programs., • Assists employees with equipment issues., • Assists in determining the best option for resale of vehicles and equipment., • Assists in preparing budget estimates., • Maintains a small selection of parts and supplies used regularly to maintain fleet., • Receives and validates incoming equipment and vehicles to ensure bid specs are met., • Manages designated team members to include directing work assignments, coaching and development, managing performance, and conducting employee performance evaluations., • Participates in interviewing, hiring and training new employees. This position exercises considerable independence in work assignments and also works as part of a team, including providing input and problem solving with others to complete tasks. Participates in short and long-term planning. The position delegates to others, provides coaching and training in a formal/informal manner, and is responsible for providing performance feedback and input into all employee status decisions. Negotiation and persuasion is used with internal/external customers and/or vendors. Decision making is typically done independently in regard to decisions affecting the individual and department work tasks, including purchasing decisions up to $500. Successful completion of job tasks impacts operating costs, internal system, customer satisfaction, and external company image/liability. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the automotive mechanic's trade., • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the automotive mechanic's trade., • Knowledge of safety engineering principles, practices, and procedures., • Ability to plan, supervise, and coordinate the work of skilled, semiskilled, and unskilled employees., • Ability to direct and coordinate large scale automotive repair and maintenance activities a number of service areas., • Skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment used in the mechanic's trade., • Ability to use phone, computer and related devices including standard operating and diagnostic programs., • Knowledge of diagnostic scan tools used to repair vehicles and equipment., • Welding, electrical, hydraulics, and fuel management knowledge., • High school diploma or equivalent., • Ten years of experience in automotive/equipment repair and maintenance., • Two years of supervisory experience., • CDL Class A, required, • A/C License, • Air Brake Certificate, • Defensive Driving Certificate The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
