American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care for a travel nursing job in Tacoma, Washington. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/20/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, days, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Days, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Apr 20, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • Work in a 16-bed PICU within a newly opened Level II Trauma Center facility, • Mixed unit with overflow interchangeability between Med/Surg and PICU, encompassing neuro, cardiac, respiratory, surgical, and medical patients, • Patient population includes respiratory patients (high flow, CPAP, BiPAP, trach), oncology/chemo, RSV, asthma, COVID, MIS-C, new onset diabetes with insulin drips, chronically ill, congenital heart defect patients (post-surgery through discharge), and trauma (falls, MVAs), • Surgical patients include appendectomies, g-tube placements, ENT, fresh trachs, bowel obstructions, fractures, VP shunts, cardiac, and neuro cases, • No solid organ transplant, major burns, or stem cell transplant patients, • ECMO patients managed by an ECMO specialist; traveler assists but does not operate the ECMO machine, • CRRT performed using Prismax; low volume on unit, typically assigned to core staff unless traveler has prior experience, • Acuity levels: Stat category 1, 2, 3, and occasionally 4, • EMR: Epic (experience preferred), • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, • 36 hours per week, • Every other weekend rotation required, • Floating to Med/Surg or ED in a Helping Hands or Constant Observer capacityRequirements, • Active WA RN license or compact RN license required, • Current certifications: BLS and PALS, • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required, • Proficiency in aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, suctioning, g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, drip management, and Foley insertion and management, • CRRT experience (Prismax) preferred, • CICU experience preferred, • Epic EMR experience preferred, • At least one supervisor-level reference (Charge Nurse, Manager, Director, or above) required for consideration; a second reference will be needed prior to startAdditional Information, • Provide comprehensive critical care nursing to a diverse pediatric population across medical, surgical, respiratory, cardiovascular, and trauma categories, • CRRT-experienced travelers will receive training on the Prismax machine before taking CRRT assignments, • Scrubs of any color are acceptable; hooded shirts and long sleeves are not permitted (sleeves must be able to be pulled above the elbow) With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
