    PERC Shelter – Kitchen Helper Job Description Summary: The Kitchen Helper supports the kitchen workers in preparing and serving meals for up to 150 individuals in an emergency shelter and soup kitchen. This role assists with food prep, cleaning, organization, and ensures a safe and sanitary kitchen environment. Responsibilities: • Assist with preparing and serving daily meals, including lunch, dinner and snacks support, • Help with basic food prep such as chopping, assembling meals, and portioning, • Package, label, and store meals properly for refrigeration or freezing, • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, pantry, and dining areas, • Organize and restock pantry and kitchen supplies, • Assist with inventory tracking alongside kitchen staff, • Support use of leftovers and donated food for meal preparation, • Work with volunteers during meal prep and service, • Ensure kitchen rules are followed, including no client access to the kitchen, • Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines, • Perform other duties as assigned by the Cook or Shelter Staff Requirements: • Some food service or kitchen experience preferred, but not required, • Willingness to learn food safety practices and procedures, • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, • Strong teamwork and communication skills, • Comfortable working with volunteers and diverse populations, • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks efficiently, • Flexible schedule, including weekends or evenings as needed
