About the Role The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, and/or auditory processing disorders in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. The SLP will also be responsible for completing GG (Functional Abilities and Goals) scoring as part of the IRF-PAI (Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility – Patient Assessment Instrument) to track patient progress and meet CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) compliance requirements. POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical Duties: • Conduct comprehensive evaluations for patients with:, • Dysphagia (including clinical swallow evaluations, FEES, or MBSS if certified), • Aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia (stroke, TBI, neurodegenerative diseases), • Cognitive-communication deficits (delirium, post-ICU recovery, dementia), • Tracheostomy patients (speech & swallow rehab), • AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) needs, • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs., • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, PT/OT, respiratory therapy, and case management/social worker for coordinated care., • Educate patients and families on home safety based on goals of rehab stay., • Participate in weekly team meetings to discuss patient progress and discharge planning., • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other therapists., • Complete GG functional scoring (Section GG of IRF-PAI) for admission, discharge, and periodic intervals., • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical record., • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to review GG scores and adjust care plans., • Education: Master’s or Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program., • Licensure: Current state SLP license (or eligible)., • Certification: Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA (or in CFY year)., • Skills:, • Strong dysphagia management skills (MBSS/FEES preferred but not always required)., • Ability to handle fast-paced, medically complex cases (ICU, stroke, trauma)., • Knowledge of CMS guidelines, IRF compliance, and hospital protocols., • Proficiency in EMR systems (EPIC, Cerner, Meditech)., • Preferred (Not Required but a Plus):, • LSVT LOUD, MBSImP, or FEES certification.
