Job DescriptionJob Title: Hospital HVAC Technician Job Description The Hospital HVAC Technician installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and specialized medical air systems throughout a healthcare facility. This role ensures that critical environments such as operating rooms, isolation rooms, ICUs, laboratories, pharmacies, and patient care areas consistently meet precise temperature, humidity, pressurization, and air‑quality standards to support patient safety and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities • Install, inspect, and test HVAC systems including furnaces, air handlers, compressors, air conditioners, heat pumps, ventilation units, and refrigeration equipment in a hospital environment., • Work on rooftop units (RTUs), chillers, boilers, exhaust systems, and specialized medical air systems that support critical care areas., • Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC systems serving operating rooms, isolation rooms, ICUs, labs, pharmacies, and other patient care spaces to ensure reliable performance., • Monitor and adjust building automation systems to maintain required temperature, humidity, and pressurization levels for patient safety and infection control., • Perform preventive maintenance such as cleaning coils, replacing filters, checking refrigerant levels, lubricating components, and calibrating controls and sensors., • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues within HVAC and refrigeration systems and perform timely, effective repairs., • Respond quickly to service calls in patient care and clinical areas, minimizing disruption to hospital operations., • Ensure all work complies with healthcare regulatory standards and HVAC codes, including relevant Joint Commission, ASHRAE, and infection-control requirements., • Read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and manufacturer specifications to plan and execute work accurately., • Document all work performed, including parts used, labor time, test results, and system performance, in a clear and accurate manner., • Communicate clearly with stakeholders about system issues, repair options, and maintenance recommendations., • Maintain tools, equipment, and assigned vehicles in clean, safe, and reliable working condition., • Respond to emergency service calls as needed, including urgent issues affecting critical hospital environments., • Collaborate with team members, contractors, and supervisors to complete projects on schedule and support facility-wide initiatives.Essential Skills, • Proven experience as an HVAC Technician or in a closely related role working with HVAC and refrigeration systems., • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, including air handlers, compressors, chillers, boilers, rooftop units (RTUs), and ventilation equipment., • Hands-on experience with HVAC maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair in complex, mission-critical environments., • Solid knowledge of electrical components, controls, and mechanical systems related to HVAC and refrigeration., • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot HVAC systems that support operating rooms, isolation rooms, ICUs, laboratories, and pharmacy areas., • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, gauges, meters, and standard hand and power tools for HVAC service., • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and manufacturer specifications., • Knowledge of local, state, and federal HVAC codes and safety standards, as well as healthcare regulatory requirements such as Joint Commission and ASHRAE guidelines., • EPA Section 608 Certification (Type I, II, or Universal)., • High school diploma or equivalent., • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record., • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize multiple service calls and projects., • Clear verbal and written communication skills to interact with hospital staff and document work accurately.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Completion of a technical school program or formal HVAC training is preferred., • Experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment is beneficial., • Familiarity with building automation systems and their role in controlling temperature, humidity, and pressurization., • Understanding of refrigeration systems and refrigeration cycles used in medical and facility applications., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance., • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members, contractors, and supervisors on maintenance and construction projects., • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may shift based on patient care needs.Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a hospital setting, supporting critical clinical and patient care areas. You will work on a variety of HVAC, refrigeration, and medical air systems, including chillers, boilers, air handlers, rooftop units, exhaust systems, and building automation controls. The schedule runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with additional response to emergency service calls as needed. Work may take place in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and occupied clinical spaces, requiring attention to safety, cleanliness, and infection-control practices at all times. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bedford, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
