Prototype Machinist The Prototype Machinist is responsible for programming and operating machinery to produce parts that conform to blueprints, adhering to GD&T specifications. This role involves working 3-5 axis machines, Wire EDM, as well as other pneumatic abrasive tools. A keen eye for detail and strong mechanical aptitude are essential. This position reports directly to the Senior Operations Manager. Job Duties / Responsibilities: \n • Creates machining programs.\n, • Complete set-ups.\n, • Machine parts to conforming tolerances\n, • Perform and maintain accurate in-process quality inspections and records.\n, • Identify and recommend process improvements to reduce part quality variation.\n, • Input data into visual management forms and convey results to management.\n, • Continuously improve processes and procedures to eliminate waste.\n, • Set up, operate, and perform daily maintenance on CNC equipment.\n, • Assist in the deburring of parts.\n\n Required Skills: \n • Ability to read and understand blueprints to meet specified dimensions (GD&T).\n, • Understanding of machine tool accuracies, fixture offsets, and tool offsets.\n, • Knowledge of cutting tool feeds, speeds, and tool life for aerospace hard turning or milling.\n, • Proficient in using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, precision scales).\n, • Ability to maintain close tolerances (within 0.001") for IDs, ODs, roundness, concentricity, and squareness.\n, • General knowledge and skill in using wire EDM and bandsaws.\n, • Proficient with hand, power, and pneumatic tools (pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, punches, chisels, saws, clamps, drills, impact hammers, abrasives, grinders, and rotary drills).\n, • Ability to communicate effectively with employees and management.\n\n Desired Qualifications: \n • Experience with Siemens NX CAM\n, • Experience running DMG Mori equipment including DMU60, and DMC125 FD with Siemens 840D Control\n, • Experience with set-up and machining Additive Manufacturing (metal-LPBF) parts\n, • Mechanical Design Modeling\n, • Lean Manufacturing including 6S\n\n Education / Experience / General Requirements: \n • High school diploma or equivalent.\n, • Minimum 3 years of experience in operation setup on CNC machines (required).\n, • Good vision abilities, including close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus (required).\n, • Ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs.
