Job Description Overview: The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, and internal control activities for the bank. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the efficiency of accounting operations. The Controller plays a key leadership role in managing the bank’s financial close process, budgeting, and audits, and provides strategic insights to support decision-making by executive management. Essential Functions: Financial Management & Reporting • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements (FDIC, FRB, etc.)., • Manage the general ledger, chart of accounts, and all accounting systems and processes – including Investments, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Accruals, and Prepaid Expenses., • Ensure timely and accurate reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts and subsidiary ledgers., • Review and approve journal entries, accruals, and financial adjustments., • Support the CFO with board reports, management dashboards, and financial analyses., • FHLMC Custodial Accounting management (monthly reconciliations), • Manage data and assumption inputs for the ALM model, • Sales and Use Tax review and tax form preparation, • Oversee and ensure timely completion of annual vendor 1099 preparation, • Daily liquidity review/Correspondent Bank funding Regulatory Compliance & Audit • Maintain compliance with all applicable banking regulations and accounting standards., • Coordinate and manage external audits (financial statement and regulatory) and internal audit requests., • Prepare and review regulatory filings, including the Call Report and other required submissions., • Monitor emerging regulatory and accounting changes and assess their impact on the bank’s operations. Internal Controls & Risk Management • Develop and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure financial data integrity., • Conduct periodic reviews of accounting policies, procedures, and controls for efficiency and effectiveness., • Collaborate with Risk Management and Compliance teams to address audit findings and implement corrective actions as necessary. Budgeting & Forecasting • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in coordination with department heads and executive management., • Analyze budget variances, trends, and financial performance metrics., • Provide strategic insights and recommendations to support financial planning and decision-making. Leadership & Team Development • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement., • Oversee staff training on accounting standards, regulatory updates, and system enhancements., • Promote cross-departmental collaboration to enhance operational efficiency. Qualifications: Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required, • 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a management/supervisory role., • Strong technical accounting knowledge (U.S. GAAP, regulatory reporting standards)., • Experience with banking systems (e.g., COCC, ORACLE, BANKTEL, or similar)., • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial reporting software., • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills., • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines., • High ethical standards and attention to detail., • Strong leadership qualities, • Ability to follow policies, procedures, and written instructions, as well as verbal instructions and directions SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Staff Accountant/Accounts Payable Clerk WORK ENVIRONMENT: Typical office environment.
