Job Description Job Title: Welder Shift: 1st Pay: $20-23hr Job Description This role is responsible for laying out and welding structural steel to build metal structures, ensuring all work meets print specifications and quality standards. You will use a variety of welding processes and shop equipment, interpret blueprints and weld symbols, and help maintain a safe, organized work area in a busy fabrication environment. Responsibilities • Lay out and weld structural steel components to build metal structures according to engineering prints and specifications., • Weld and cut black carbon and galvanized steel using appropriate welding processes and cutting tools., • Interpret and work from schematics, blueprints, and weld symbols with a high level of proficiency., • Ensure all products are manufactured and assembled in accordance with drawings, prints, and quality requirements., • Operate hand tools, grinders, and other basic shop tools safely and effectively., • Operate, or learn to operate, basic shop machinery and equipment as needed for fabrication and welding tasks., • Use tape measures and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances, including measurements to 1/32 of an inch., • Perform basic math calculations, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing measurements in pounds, feet, and inches., • Operate vehicles, mechanical devices, or equipment required to move materials and components within the shop., • Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area in accordance with 6S leadership standards and goals., • Follow and comply with all company safety requirements, policies, and procedures at all times., • Apply strong flux-core and MIG welding techniques, with a focus on vertical/uphill welds and column welds., • Utilize TIG welding skills when needed, particularly on stainless steel or specialized applications., • Assist with mechanical assembly and fabrication tasks related to welded structures and components., • Train and support new welders by demonstrating proper welding techniques, blueprint reading, and shop practices., • Ability to pass 3G and 4G MIG welding tests, with a focus on vertical/uphill welds and column welds., • Strong background in flux-core welding and MIG welding, including structural applications., • Proficiency in reading and interpreting welding blueprints and weld symbols; ability to pass a blueprint test., • Ability to read a tape measure accurately to 1/32 of an inch., • Ability to perform basic math calculations involving pounds, feet, and inches., • Experience with mechanical assembly and fabrication of metal structures., • Ability to operate hand tools, grinders, and basic shop tools safely and effectively., • Willingness and ability to learn operation of basic shop machinery and equipment., • High school diploma or GED., • Minimum of 4 years of recent welding experience., • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without restrictions., • Ability to read, write, and speak English to perform job duties and follow written and verbal instructions., • Computer proficiency in a Windows environment, including basic navigation, entering and exiting screens, saving, and printing., • TIG welding experience, particularly on stainless steel, is a strong plus., • Two-year welding certification is a plus but not required., • Experience working with stainless steel materials., • Familiarity with 6S or similar workplace organization and continuous improvement practices., • Comfort operating vehicles or mechanical devices used in a fabrication or shop environment. Work Environment This role is based in a non-climate-controlled fabrication shop environment, where temperatures will vary with the seasons. You will work on a 1st shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The facility operates with approximately 80 other employees, creating a busy, collaborative production setting. You will regularly work around structural steel, welding equipment, hand tools, grinders, and basic shop machinery, and you will follow established safety and 6S housekeeping practices to maintain an organized workspace. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dallas, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
