Job Description Job Title: Construction Laborer / Custom Awning Installer Job Description This role focuses on installing custom awnings, canopies, patio covers, shade structures, and related exterior products for a variety of commercial and residential clients. You will work on-site with a crew, using hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts to complete high-quality installations, repairs, and adjustments. The position requires careful measurement and layout, reading and following shop drawings and work orders, maintaining tools and vehicles, and consistently adhering to safety standards and regulations. Responsibilities • Install custom awnings, canopies, patio covers, shade structures, and related exterior products at commercial and residential job sites., • Read and interpret work orders and installation instructions to ensure accurate and efficient installations., • Measure, lay out, and verify installation locations using tape measures and basic construction math to confirm proper fit and alignment., • Install anchors into wood framing, concrete, masonry, steel, and stucco using appropriate tools and techniques., • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, drills, ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts in accordance with safety policies and Cal/OSHA regulations., • Load, transport, unload, and organize installation materials and equipment, ensuring all items are secure and ready for use., • Perform service calls, repairs, and adjustments on existing installations as needed to maintain product quality and customer satisfaction., • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in clean, safe, and working condition, reporting any issues promptly., • Keep job sites clean, organized, and free of hazards throughout the workday and upon completion of each project., • Communicate professionally and clearly with customers, coworkers, and supervisors to coordinate work and resolve issues., • Follow all company safety policies and Cal/OSHA regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment and fall protection., • Assist with shop work or fabrication tasks when required by business needs, including basic welding or metal fabrication if experienced., • Work effectively as part of a crew, coordinating departures in the early morning and collaborating on tasks throughout the day., • Travel to out-of-town job sites as needed, typically for 1–3 days at a time, while representing the company professionally., • Troubleshoot installation challenges and participate in problem management to ensure projects are completed on time and to specification., • Support sign installation and carpentry-related tasks as part of skilled construction labor responsibilities. Essential Skills • One or more years of awning installation, exterior construction, sign installation, carpentry, or related construction experience preferred., • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic construction math for layout and verification of installation locations., • Experience using hand tools and power tools, including drills and other common construction equipment., • Ability to read and understand shop drawings, blueprints, work orders, and installation instructions., • Valid California driver's license., • Reliable attendance and punctuality to meet coordinated crew departure times and customer scheduling commitments., • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to high-quality workmanship., • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a crew., • Comfort working at heights, including on ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts with fall protection., • Effective communication and people skills for interacting with customers, coworkers, and supervisors., • Ability to participate in troubleshooting and problem management during installations and repairs. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus and can support communication within crews and with clients., • Welding or metal fabrication experience is a plus and may be used in shop or fabrication work., • Experience in skilled construction labor, particularly in exterior installations or sign installation, is beneficial., • Familiarity with Cal/OSHA safety standards and safe operation of ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts., • Ability to adapt to occasional travel for projects in regions such as San Diego, Santa Barbara, Fresno, and occasionally the San Francisco area., • Professional appearance and ability to follow company guidelines for attire while on job sites. Work Environment This is a contract-to-hire role designed for individuals seeking a long-term career and growth within a stable construction environment. The position focuses on custom awning installation and related exterior structures. Typical workdays start early, around 5:00 or 6:00 a.m., with standard 8-hour shifts and occasional overtime depending on project needs and traffic conditions. Occasional Saturday work may be required, and rare graveyard shifts may occur; scheduling flexibility is supported when possible. Each morning, crews meet at a central location in Pacoima, then travel together in company vehicles to job sites and return at the end of the day. Work is primarily in the Los Angeles area, with travel to other cities such as San Diego, Santa Barbara, Fresno, and occasionally the San Francisco area, approximately 30% of the year for 1–3 days at a time. You will work in a crew environment, often with other installers and English-speaking managers, and clear communication is important. The role involves working at heights, including on two-story ladders and using harness-based fall protection above 6 feet, as well as working on lifts; training is provided for lift operation and fall protection. Personal protective equipment is required, including a hard hat, long pants, and steel-toe boots, and company shirts are provided as part of the dress code. Job sites and vehicles are expected to remain clean and organized, and all work is performed in alignment with Cal/OSHA safety regulations and company safety policies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pacoima, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
