Job Summary and Qualifications Must demonstrate the ability to perform manual and automated test procedures, accurately report laboratory results, perform special calculations, and report critical values. Performs and reviews quality control; decides if results are within acceptable limits; research problems and documents. Must ensure automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting procedures daily or as needed. Must be knowledgeable of specimen requirements, processing procedures, and specimen rejection criteria. Must be familiar with the use of laboratory forms, requisitions, to include the laboratory information system. Must understand and remain compliant with hospital and department policies/procedures. Assist in the evaluation of new procedures and equipment. Participates in opportunities for continuing education and/or teaching, training according to the section performance standards to enhance technical skills. Employee will be responsible for knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the neonate, infant child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric population. He/she will perform tasks as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager within his/her scope of training. What you will do in this role: • Supports the philosophy of HCA Houston Medical Center by facilitating cooperation of hospital staff in a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care., • Consistently provides outstanding service to all patients, physicians, fellow employees, and guests., • Displays initiative to see processes through to completion and offers assistance without being asked., • Maintains awareness of own limitations and seeks guidance from appropriate personnel as needed., • Prioritizes activities of self-based on demands for service., • Remains alert to the detection of errors in own work and the work of others with appropriate corrective actions initiated., • Demonstrates an understanding of patient rights, including those pertaining to confidentiality, informed decision-making, and privacy., • Is aware of resources available for ethical concerns and makes appropriate referrals., • Practices cost-efficiently., • Performs technical skills proficiently in accordance with established standards, as evidenced by annual validation processes. What qualifications you will need: • Associate degree in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience., • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology or related area of specialty preferred., • 1–2-year experience in a clinical laboratory, • Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and procedures., • Good verbal and written communication skills., • Good manual dexterity., • MLT (ASCP) or MT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred or Registry eligible as a Medical Technologist ___ is a 445+ bed acute care hospital located in the heart of central Houston, adjacent to the Medical Center and Museum District, and provides quality care for the greater Houston area.
