About the role We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Broadcast Engineer to join our SNY Engineering and Operations team. In this full-time position, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining, supporting, and innovating within our live broadcast and studio environments. You’ll work closely with IT, Systems, and Engineering teams to ensure seamless studio operations, maintaining critical infrastructure, and ensuring the highest levels of availability and performance in a high paced broadcast studio environment. You will be part of a talented IT / Systems / Engineering team that demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering internal customer service. This is a fast-paced, collaborative role for someone who thrives under pressure, takes ownership, and is passionate about technology in a broadcast and control room environment. Responsible for system problem solving and repair of the equipment associated within a studio environment. Candidate selected to perform daily preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and support multiple daily live studio productions including quality control for incoming/outgoing ENG and truck game feeds as a studio technical manager or Engineer. This role reports to our Sr. Manager, Engineer. What You’ll Do • Fill in for studio technical managers and oversee live productions, crews, and scheduled shows, • Develop strong working relationships with department leaders and their teams including Production Operations, Engineering, IT, Creative Services, Sales, Traffic and News and Field Operations groups. Help with documentation, develop best practices and implement new technologies and deliver projects on time., • Perform daily preventive maintenance and troubleshoot issues in audio, video, intercom, and related broadcast systems., • Maintain quality control for all incoming feeds including Zoom calls, ENG and truck game feeds, routing, IFB & PL communication., • Working with external Technical Support to ensure timely resolution of internal requests and issues resolution., • Provide troubleshooting and support with the ability to perform urgent maintenance on studio, control room, and newsroom equipment., • Evaluate and optimize workflows related to all systems including video workflows – editing infrastructures, virtualized Windows / Linux environments, encode/decode IP transmission platforms, newsgathering LiveU, Vantage systems, VM file‐based systems and Haivision., • Assist to Evaluate, test, and install upgrades to existing system and new hardware / technology., • Ongoing assessment of production workflows, identifying processes that can be streamlined or improved upon with new hardware, software, or automation., • Work with operations teams to ensure SOP’s & documentation are written and up to date., • Comprising of Evaluate, commission and training others of the new technology or operation procedure., • The commission process of (Installation and running new wiring plus labeling) also on training other fellow engineers on new technology and studio operation procedures., • You have experience in broadcast engineering, studio operations, or a related technical field with supporting a non‐linear edit system such as Avid & the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite., • Knowledge of broadcast transmission, remote production, and truck feeds., • Knowledge of traditional IP/LAN infrastructures and Storage technology, • Knowledge of media workflow tools and production systems such as Avid, SSL audio, Vantage, EnCaption, Ross Cambot robotics, Overdrive and Xpression systems., • Respond to and resolve technical issues during live productions with a sense of urgency and professionalism., • Knowledge of Video over IP protocol (RTP / SRT) as we utilize Haivision, LiveU, Evertz and Nevion distribution systems., • Knowledge of SSL audio systems, Grass Valley switchers, Ross Overdrive Production automation, Evertz router (monitoring and control), QC monitoring and RTS intercom system., • Strong ability to read system documentation (Visio, AUTOCAD)., • Positive work ethic, ability to work well in groups to execute projects on time while maintaining the manager's expectations., • LED wall experience (Utilizing NovaStar tech and 4K knowledge a Plus), • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with diverse audiences across different departments, ranging from non‐ technical clients to technical professionals and operations staff., • Ability to work on assigned tasks, projects and own initiative with the staff. Excellent organization, collaboration, and communication skills., • Knowledge of broadcast transmission, remote production, and truck feeds., • Contribute to the planning and implementation of new systems and technologies., • BS in Engineering / Computer Science or have a minimum of 7 years professional Broadcast Staff Engineer experience in a live studio production facility., • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and solve complex technical issues in real-time., • Experience in a similar role with a media company, systems integrator, or other relevant industry, • Must be able to work flexible hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and overnights, • Ability to lift and carry 30+ pounds of gear, • Must be willing to work in New York, NY. This is an in-office position working 4 days in the office.
