Job Description Afterschool Teacher Assistant Reports to: Program Director Location: PS 156 - The Waverly School of the Arts, 104 Sutter Avenue 11212 Salary Range: $20.00/hour - $20.00/hour Hours: Part Time - Hourly; During the school year - Monday through Friday 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm. Holiday camp from 8:00am - 6:00pm for 13 days per school year when DOE is closed. Aligned with the 7 Core Principles of the Fair Futures Initiative our program seeks to surround our youth with individualized and catered attention and support. The department aims to put youth on stable path by focusing on their success in high school, college and career development. The program remains with a youth from 9th grade through age 26, or until they are on a living wage career path. Empowerment Coaches will work solely with youth from age 14 to 26 years old in our Foster Care program and youth that have been discharged from care. The Coaches will build trusting relationships and provide social and emotional support to the youth. The coach will be there for the youth, help them navigate any challenges, celebrate successes, and plan for the future. This course introduces students to the law and practice of human rights as well as the challenges of enforcing rights in an international environment that has grown increasingly hostile to principles of human dignity and personal freedom. Students review the philosophical foundations of human rights and then examine human rights from two perspectives. First, the legal perspective introduces them to basic principles and rules of international law and the main international organizations and mechanisms designed for promoting and enforcing human rights. Second, they adopt the role of social scientist. We debate evidence on the effectiveness of human rights law and discuss challenges of enforcing rights in an international system in which states are not accountable to a higher authority. Students apply their new knowledge to the problems facing human rights today. Topics may include cultural relativist critiques of human rights as a Western, neo-colonialist institution, challenges from new technologies in state surveillance and autonomous weapons, and existential threats to human populations through climate change and environmental damage. Job Description POSITION SUMMARY City Parks Learn has operated interdisciplinary environmental education programs in schools and parks since 1992. Eco-Innovators is a program for 9th - 12th graders that gives students access to environmental STEM learning and introduces them to NYC infrastructure and leaders as they work to invent creative projects that push the environmental resiliency movement forward in their own communities. Students make real change as they explore urban infrastructure and advocacy tools and learn techniques to help solve challenging environmental issues, including expanding green spaces, increasing recycling and reducing waste, and improving energy efficiency. City Parks Foundation seeks an experienced environmental educator with deep knowledge of and passion for environmental resiliency and community advocacy. Reporting to the Senior Manager of STEM Pathways, the successful candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience in delivering instruction to and working with adolescents in a project-based, out-of-school time setting. During the school year, the Eco-Innovators Program Manager manages and implements after-school programming for up to 25 high school students at each of 4 locations, using site-specific, inquiry-based lessons to stimulate meaningful learning experiences for students in their own communities.
