The Methadone Counselor position provides counseling to individuals receiving integrated substance abuse treatment and primary care services at the Substance Abuse Treatment Program. Essential Functions: • Comprehensive psychosocial., • Instruct patients in program policies and procedures., • Development, implementation, and review of treatment plans., • Provision of substance abuse counseling to individuals, groups, and families. Counseling focusing on building motivation, educating, planning crisis intervention, relapse prevention and aftercare., • Coordination of comprehensive services within the clinic for patients on counseling caseload., • Monitoring of patients’ response to methadone medication treatment through individual counseling and toxicology review., • Conduct vocational /educational and learning needs evaluation in psychosocial and ongoing as indicated. Provide referral as needed., • Perform preliminary evaluation regarding mental health needs of patients on caseload (i.e. presence of psychiatric symptoms, suicidality, homicidality etc.), • Evaluate patient eligibility for entitlements (Public Assistance, SSI, Medicaid etc.) Refer patients to appropriate agencies when indicated., • Enter patient data into HRA/STARS computerized database., • Acts as liaison between patient and outside agencies, • Attend regularly scheduled meetings. i.e. IDC’s, staff meetings, morning reports, case management meetings, and other team meetings determined to be necessary., • Maintains required records on patients and updates progress notes as required. Ensures clinical chart contains necessary information regarding patient’s status and other information required by the program policies and regulatory agencies. Completes all required forms and treatment plans., • Assist patients with referral to other services and agencies determined to be necessary to the recovery process (i.e. shelters, detox units, legal counsel, etc.), • Give case presentations in supervision, IDC meetings, daily reports., • Ensure all counselor specific billable services are billed and perform follow-ups to billing (delinquent payments, obtaining information required to bill, confirming and updating billing information, etc.), • Attendance at seminars, trainings and grand rounds which are determined to be important to staff development., • Counselors will directly supervise the collection of toxicology samples for all patients as required by federal and state regulations., • Meet with family members, significant others and outside providers as determined to be necessary and appropriate for clinical management and care. Qualifications: • One year’s work experience as an addiction’s counselor (preferably with methadone clients) and a BA or BS degree required. The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly qualified Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop, validate and run High Resolution Mass Spectrometry-based quantitative drug and exposomics assays in support of the care of patients with obesity and diabetes and in support of patients with psychiatric disorders. The ARPA-H funded project is part of a multi-institutional effort (IndiPHARM) led by Dr Gary Miller from Columbia University, Mailman School of Public Health. The project itself is led by Drs Serge Cremers, and Alex Lyashchenko who will be overseeing the activities of the fellow in the Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology Laboratory of the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The work is to lead to several scientific publications and will provide a unique opportunity for clinical pathologists and clinical chemists to gain experience in the development of highly complex mass spectrometry assays and their application in patient care. For other MDs, PhDs, and/or PharmDs with experience in this area, the work not only provides a unique opportunity to develop highly complex mass spectrometry assays for patient care, but also an opportunity to be trained as clinical laboratory director and clinical pharmacologist. Job Function: Develop, validate and implement High Resolution Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (Exploris-120)- based panel assays to quantify drugs, metabolomic and exposomic markers in blood of patients in support of their care. The panel assays are to be approved for patient care by NY State Department of Health. The panels are focused on drugs, metabolomic, and exposomic markers relevant for treatment patients with diabetes and obesity and for the treatment of patients with psychiatric diseases. The fellow will be involved in the clinical pharmacological interpretation of these highly complex assays for individual patients and is expected to publish several papers from these activities. If eligible, the fellow is expected to apply for a Laboratory Director Certificate of Qualification in Therapeutic Substance Monitoring / Quantitative Toxicology from New York State Department of Health. Lab Mission/Purpose: The Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology Laboratory of the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology is a state-of-the-art CLIA-, CAP, and New York State Department of Health-accredited academic clinical laboratory that develops and offers LC-MS- and HPLC-based assays for drugs in support of patient care. The laboratory's rapidly expanding test menu includes routine assays for drugs that are also offered by other clinical laboratories but its primary focus is on drugs for which therapeutic drug monitoring is not available anywhere else. In addition, the laboratory's unique position within one of the world's leading medical centers enables early translation of assays for drugs in development into patient care. Job Description Job Summary: The principal objective of preventive care is to address family stressors after traumatic incidents related to the safety and well-being of the children in the home. In the Forestdale Strong Families: Preventive team, the CASAC is responsible for identifying and implementing strategies to identify and effectively work with parents who might be experiencing substance misuse issues. The CASAC primarily works with staff in the FT/R program to administer substance use assessment tools to evaluate and refer clients to appropriate substance use treatment resources. CASAC may also be required to administer testing, make referrals and to conduct groups for adults. The CASAC may also be required to provide assistance to the Family Support and Trauma Systems Therapy- Program as needed. Roles & Responsibilities: • Performs routine laboratory procedures including specimen labeling, collection, processing, and shipping in accordance with established SOPs and/or study protocol under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, Clinical Research Coordinator, Principal Investigator, and Sub-Investigators., • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, pipettes, and refrigerators/freezers., • Develop a strong working knowledge of the study protocols and flow chart of study procedures and implement study procedures in full compliance with protocol requirements., • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in laboratory or study-specific documents, temperature logs, and shipping logs., • Perform environmental monitoring and equipment temperature checks to ensure proper specimen storage conditions., • Assist with inventory management, restocking supplies, and maintaining organized work areas., • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (GCP and internal QA procedures)., • Support weekend and surge workload coverage as needed based on operational demands., • Assist Laboratory Manager in any task as needed. Education, Experience & Skills Required: • Associate or BS in biology, chemistry, or related area, or completion and certification of Lab Technician course from an accredited or allied health training school., • 1 year of experience in clinical research laboratory or related medical field., • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and laboratory equipment operation., • Good communication skills., • Excellent organization and planning skills.
