Job Description BASIC FUNCTION Responsible for acting in place of the Director of the Commercial & Industrial Lending (C&I) and Small Business Finance (SBF) Department. The position will oversee all other Bank departments, ensuring C & I and SBF are compliant with policy and appropriate procedures. Assist with identification of lending and deposit opportunities as well as qualifies loans to borrowers for real estate secured and non-real estate financing opportunities. Ensures the quality of prospective commercial loan opportunities/portfolio to meet/exceed the Bank’s standards for C & I and SBF loans. This position will also have management responsibility for evaluating, structuring, underwriting, loan transactions originated from the C & I and Small Business Finance Departments, both new transactions and modifications. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Deputy: • Oversees the department’s Administration, Underwriting and Production (Relationship Managers) to ensure they are following the bank’s Commercial C & I and Small Business Finance lending policies and practices., • Will further oversee all Department Teams to ensure transactions are effectively/efficiently proceeding toward approval and closing., • Makes telephone and personal calls to customers and potential customers., • Expedites the resolution of customer problems/complaints., • Oversees the quality of new/existing accounts. Verifies that potential loans conform to policy. Ensures that necessary documentation is completed, and requests additional data as needed. Confers with Department Director on portfolio opportunities/issues., • Maintains a state-of-the-art knowledge of the bank’s Commercial/Small Business lending market, with respect to products, pricing and demand., • Reviews/signs-off on new loan and modification underwritings (as long as position is not a producing position)., • Review commitment letters and loan documentation to insure conformance with approval and Bank policies., • Performs other duties as required. Underwriting: • Responsible for reviewing and analyzing commercial real estate and non-real estate loan requests/submissions, financial statements, property/business soundness and viability, industry trends, competition, management capability and financial leverage., • Responsible for reviewing each underwriter and/or performing in-depth due diligence on prospective clients (Borrowers/Principle/Guarantors) and their financial statements including cash flow modeling and projections., • Interact with Relationship Managers to establish appropriate loan structure which is consistent with prescribed credit policies, underwriting guidelines and general best practices considering risk elements inherent in loan purpose, ownership structure, management depth and experience., • Responsible for preparing Credit Memorandum for approval by Department Head, Senior Lending Officer and/or Credit Committee., • Interact with customers, Relationship Managers, underwriting staff, and administrative staff to obtain timely and complete financial information., • Assist in recommending, updating, and writing Departmental Credit Policies and Procedures as well as underwriting procedures., • Negotiate and recommend for approval loan modifications., • Responsible for managing the Underwriting staff and Sales staff (RM) workflow. Department Support: • Interact with Loan Review and Internal Audit relating to asset reviews, • Interact with external Bank Accountants and Regulators during their review., • Prepare draft responses to Loan Review and Internal Audit reports for Department Director and SLO review and sign off., • Assist the Department Director in overseeing the activities of the Commercial C & I and Small Business Finance departments including C & I and SBF policies, procedures and other management reporting requirements. JOB REQUIREMENTS Education: College Degree or education (or a combination of education and experience) equivalent to an undergraduate degree, Bank lending experience with successful completion of a credit training program. Experience: • Minimum of 15 years’ commercial lending/Small Business real estate and non-real estate experience required., • Minimum of 5 years’ Supervisory/Management experience., • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Senior Underwriter with demonstrated ability to independently analyze, structure, negotiate and close commercial real estate loan transactions., • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing high performing sales teams with processes, prospecting and COI cultivation., • Excellent organizational skills., • Thorough knowledge of commercial real estate and non-real estate loan product lines., • Goal oriented individual – displaying self-motivation and initiative being a detail oriented and conscientious leader., • Excellent leadership and teamwork skills required., • Strong customer service skills required., • Experience with bank credit policies and procedures, loan analysis and guarantor/sponsor financial analysis., • Previous leadership role in a senior capacity with demonstrated ability to manage and direct subordinates., • Excellent organizational, presentation, interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to multi-task., • Ability to work independently under stringent time constraints., • Proficient in Word, Excel, Office, and other spreadsheet software applications.
