Job Summary The Producer for The TransLash Podcast with Imara Jones and The Mess: Imara’s Guide to Our Political Hellscape oversees the production of TransLash’s two news and information talk shows, ensuring that every episode runs smoothly from concept to completion. This role plays a central part in the creation, coordination, and finalization of each episode, managing deadlines, coordinating guests, preparing scripts, and supporting recordings. Reporting to the Director of Podcasts, the Producer works closely with the CEO and host to ensure each show reflects TransLash’s mission and high editorial standards. The Producer also partners with internal teams and external collaborators to deliver polished, timely episodes that engage and grow TransLash’s audience. Roles and Responsibilities Pre-Production • Research and propose guests, topics, and special series for The TransLash Podcast and The Mess., • Coordinate and schedule approved guests; send all relevant details and recording links., • Proactively facilitate communication with host, guests and any other relevant stakeholders to ensure all participants have the materials and information needed in advance., • Gather key details and materials from guests, including title, bio, approved headshots, and social media handles., • Draft guest briefs for the interviewer, as requested., • Create and prepare scripts and audio clips for each program, ensuring editorial alignment and clarity., • Support the recording of The TransLash Podcast and The Mess, ensuring smooth technical and editorial execution., • Provide fact-checking support during recording sessions of The Mess., • Work with various stakeholders to ensure best-quality recordings., • Interview guests, record, and edit audio for the “Trans Joy” segment., • Manage receipt and organization of all files from guests and hosts., • Contribute to the development and future implementation of video podcast workflows., • Provide support for video recordings as the program evolves to include video components., • Send Sound Engineer edit notes and audio files, review draft assemblies and provide detailed edits with feedback., • Listen to final mixes and sign off on completed audio., • Review episodes to ensure accuracy, tone, and quality align with TransLash standards., • Draft final show descriptions for approval by the Director of Podcasts., • Upload final programs, titles, and notes to all relevant platforms., • Select the best content for digital to promote the shows., • Research and support podcast award submissions as needed., • Coordinate sharing of requested audio with partners, including distribution platforms, podcasts, or radio outlets. Project Management • Oversee production workflows and timelines to ensure all deliverables for The TransLash Podcast and The Mess are completed on time and to a high standard., • Maintain up-to-date Asana projects and task assignments, ensuring deadlines, responsibilities, and next steps are clearly defined and visible across teams., • Anticipate and resolve potential scheduling or workflow conflicts, proactively adjusting timelines and priorities to keep projects on track., • Coordinate logistics across internal staff, freelancers, and external partners to ensure smooth execution of all production phases., • Track and communicate progress at each stage of production, ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment across all contributors., • Support continuous improvement of production systems and workflows, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and collaboration., • Partner closely with the Executive Producer, Director of Podcasts, sound engineers, and digital staff to ensure cohesive production planning, execution, and delivery across The TransLash Podcast and The Mess., • Work collaboratively with internal partners to align on production goals, editorial direction, best practices, workflows, and delivery timelines., • Serve as the primary point of coordination between editorial, operations, and digital media teams for the TransLash Podcast and The Mess to ensure smooth information flow and timely decision-making. RequirementsEducation and Experience • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred but not required. A journalism-related field of study is a plus., • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the news media industry, including experience in a newsroom or other fast-paced, deadline-driven news environment., • At least 1-2 years producing an interview-format show is required., • Experience working effectively with high-profile hosts is preferred., • Relevant professional certifications, courses and fellowships preferred., • Awards or formal recognition in journalism or media are considered strong indicators of excellence and are helpful to include. Required Skills/Abilities • Demonstrated ability to create culturally competent coverage and operate with sensitivity to trans and LGBTQ+ communities., • Ability to oversee high-quality remote recordings in Riverside and coach guests on remote microphone setup and recording logistics is required., • Experience producing across different podcast formats, including interview-style shows; experience in news or a deadline-driven media environment required., • Demonstrated strength in writing scripts, conducting field production, and reporting., • Work experience with Asana, Google Drive, and Slack., • Working knowledge of audio distribution, recording and editing tools, including Acast, Apple Podcasts, Audio Hijack, Audition and Riverside., • Some video production or video podcasting experience is preferred, with a willingness to learn and adapt as TransLash expands into video formats., • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines., • Ability to shape, guide, and serve as a resource for team members with varying levels of experience., • Experience building, maintaining, and improving workflows is preferred., • An ear for good tape and excellent attention to detail., • Ability to analyze podcast analytics data to inform editorial and production decisions., • Standard working hours are flexible; however, the Producer must be available for host recordings, which typically occur during Eastern Time business hours., • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally for field recordings, reporting trips, or event coverage., • Remaining in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods, • Prolonged periods working on a computer, • Communicating with others to exchange information, • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers BenefitsWhy TransLash At TransLash Media, we don’t just tell stories—we create impact.
