The Role We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer – ATE to take a technical role in developing and maintaining automated test systems used to validate our advanced embedded computing products by operations. This is a key position in ensuring that every product meets the company’s exacting standards for performance and reliability and to support the rapidly growing production of our products. What will I be delivering? As a Senior Software Engineer within the ATE team, you will be responsible for the design, architecture, and implementation of complex automated test software solutions. You will technically lead ATE projects from concept to deployment, mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams in hardware, firmware, and manufacturing to enhance product test coverage, throughput, and diagnostic accuracy. Key Responsibilities: • Technical lead the design and development of automated test software architectures for production and system-level validation., • Drive technical direction for ATE software frameworks and toolchains, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and reusability., • Integrate and control test instrumentation, fixtures, and interfaces using standard communication protocols (e.g., GPIB, USB, Ethernet, RS-232)., • Develop and maintain test libraries, drivers, and APIs to support diverse hardware platforms., • Collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, and production teams to define test requirements and ensure full coverage of product functionality., • Analyse test results, investigate issues, and contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives., • Oversee legacy ATE systems, implementing upgrades and performance optimisations., • Mentor and support junior software and test engineers in best practices for software design, test automation, and coding standards., • Ensure all ATE software complies with internal quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, IPC). Essential Skills & Qualifications • Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related discipline., • Extensive experience developing software for automated test systems or hardware validation environments., • Strong proficiency in C#, C/C++, or Python, including OO design and software architecture principles., • Hands-on experience with instrumentation control, and data acquisition systems., • Proven ability to integrate test software with electronic hardware and embedded systems., • Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux development environments., • Experience with source control systems (e.g., Git) and issue tracking tools (e.g., Jira)., • Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills., • Strong communication and mentoring capabilities. The Role The Senior Hardware Test Engineer is responsible for defining, developing, and supporting automated test systems that enable efficient and scalable production of embedded computing hardware. Key Responsibilities: -Engage early in PCB/board design reviews to define Design for Testability (DfT) requirements and influence product architecture. -Capture, document, and maintain ATE requirements aligned with product and production needs. -Work collaboratively with software ATE engineers to define and develop the overall ATE architecture (hardware, software, instrumentation, fixtures). -Specify and design hardware elements of ATE systems, including fixtures, ITAs, harnesses, interface boards, and switching. -Support development of automated test sequences and diagnostic routines with software ATE teams. -Provide technical leadership through NPI, pilot builds, and full-scale production. -Troubleshoot test failures, perform root-cause investigations, and drive yield and throughput improvements. -Validate and qualify ATE systems before release to manufacturing. -Maintain clear documentation: test procedures, interface schematics, wiring diagrams, and maintenance guides. -Provide ongoing support for deployed ATE, including upgrades, calibration strategies, and process improvements. Essential Skills & Experience -Strong understanding of electronic hardware: digital/analog circuits, power sequencing, timing, and high-speed interfaces. -Proven experience developing or supporting Automated Test Equipment in a production environment. -Ability to define and influence test requirements early in product design. -Experience collaborating with software ATE developers to build integrated test platforms. -Proficiency with test instrumentation (oscilloscopes, PSUs, DAQ, signal generators, analyzers, switching hardware). -Familiarity with test automation tools/languages (LabVIEW, Python, C/C++). -Experience with DfT, boundary-scan (JTAG), BIST, and diagnostic firmware features. -Strong troubleshooting and fault-isolation capability. -Strong documentation and requirements-writing skills. -Ability to work effectively with hardware, firmware, software, production, and quality teams. Desired Skills -Experience with embedded computing systems or complex multilayer PCBs. -Knowledge of manufacturing processes (SMT, assembly, ICT, AOI, functional test). -Understanding of reliability analysis, yield improvement, or FRACAS systems. -Ability to design simple custom electronics for test fixtures or adapters. -Experience in aerospace, defense, industrial computing, or other high-reliability environments. -Experience planning test capacity and designing ATE systems for production scaling and throughput growth.
