Location : London, hybrid Salary : Competitive + Benefits Role type : Permanent Hours : 35 hours PURPOSE OF THE JOB To provide a claims handling service to MDU & DDU members who are the subject of a clinical negligence claim. KEY ACTIVITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES Responsible for handling own caseload within defined limits of authority & strictly in accordance with Claims Handling Protocol. Provide support for other members of the claims handling team & contribute to a positive team culture. Work at all times with full knowledge of, & in accordance with, the CHU Protocol and the regulatory framework e.g. the Financial Services Act & the Data Protection Act. Provide assistance & guidance to members during the claims handling process. Develop & maintain a good working knowledge of current technical & legal developments relevant to the work of the Claims Handling department. Participate in educational activities within MDUSL & keep a record of training/educational activities. Any other duties for MDUSL that are within the post holders capabilities. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Basic knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules Ability to absorb and understand clinical aspects of medicine & dentistry to a level that can be applied to claims handling Experience in the use of Microsoft Office Experience of MDU systems, in particular Profile & COMPASS JOB RELATED COMPETENCIES knowledge, skills and attitude (personal, managerial and technical) Personal/General Good oral & written communication Able to adapt & work under pressure, prioritising as necessary Supportive of other team members Able to absorb and retain a variety of information with the aim of increasing knowledge & developing self in claims handling role Demonstrates high standards of customer service Technical Basic understanding of Civil Procedure Rules Knowledge of/interest in clinical aspects of medicine & dentistry Adherence to the MDU Claims Handling Protocol Knowledge of in-house IT systems, particularly COMPASS & Profile Experience in the use of Microsoft Office KEY OUTPUTS/PERFORMANCE MEASURES Actively managing claims & maintaining case files in good order. Ensuring case files are adequately reserved & reviewed in accordance with Claims Handling Protocol. Compliance with Complaints Procedure. Determination of policy coverage & adherence to protocol for referring coverage issues. Control & minimise indemnity payments & defence costs. JOB CONTEXT This position requires the post holder to manage a portfolio of low value claims, using entry level technical skills to achieve the optimum result on each case. Adherence to legislative requirements & service standards is essential. The post holder must be flexible, self-motivated & able to work as part of a team.
