Role Purpose \n \n The Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant and commercially controlled delivery of designated mechanical projects or work packages within the Energy Department. The role provides day-to-day leadership of site delivery, programme, suppliers, supervisors and field teams, ensuring that project outputs are delivered in line with client requirements, contractual obligations, MJ Quinn standards and relevant health, safety, quality and environmental expectations. The postholder will act as a key operational link between the client, project team, commercial function, suppliers and senior management, providing clear reporting, early risk identification and proactive resolution of project issues. \n Key Accountabilities \n 1. Project Delivery and Programme Control \n\n • Manage day-to-day delivery of designated mechanical projects or assigned work packages, ensuring works are planned, coordinated and delivered safely, right first time and to the required standard.\n, • Take operational responsibility for site methodology, sequencing, short-term planning, progress monitoring and programme performance.\n, • Review project information, drawings and client-issued designs, identifying buildability issues, technical queries, access constraints and delivery risks at the earliest opportunity.\n, • Coordinate site activity with supervisors, engineers, suppliers, subcontractors and other trades to maintain progress and minimise disruption to live environments.\n, • Ensure project documentation, records, permits, quality checks and handover information are complete, accurate and maintained in line with business requirements.\n\n 1. Commercial and Contractual Control \n\n • Work closely with the commercial team to monitor project cost, value, change, risk and forecast position.Identify and escalate risks that may impact budget, margin, programme, supplier costs or overhead recovery.\n, • Support the timely provision of information required for valuations, variations, compensation events, early warnings, procurement updates and client reporting, where applicable.\n, • Maintain a clear understanding of project scope, deliverables and client requirements to reduce the risk of uncontrolled change or unrecorded additional works.\n\n \n 1. Health, Safety, Quality and Environment \n\n • Promote and enforce a Safety First and Right First Time culture across all site operations.\n, • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with applicable legislation, MJ Quinn policies, client site rules, RAMS, permits and project-specific controls.\n, • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, quality failures and service deterioration trends competently, ensuring corrective and preventative actions are recorded and closed out.\n, • Carry out regular site inspections, quality checks and audits to verify workmanship, compliance, housekeeping and safe systems ofwork.\n, • Raise, manage and close non-conformance reports, ensuring actions are allocated, pursued and resolved.\n\n \n 1. Supplier, Supervisor and Field Team Management \n\n • Lead and coordinate supervisors, field engineers, suppliers and subcontracted resources engaged on the designated project.\n, • Allocate tasks clearly, confirm expectations, track progress and ensure resources are aligned to programme requirements.\n, • Monitor supplier performance against MJ Quinn standards, client requirements, safety expectations, quality outputs and agreed delivery milestones.\n, • Support, motivate and develop team members by setting clear standards, removing blockers and promoting professional behaviours.\n\n \n Essential Experience, Skills and Behaviours \n\n • Strong mechanical building services background with the ability to understand, coordinate and manage mechanical systems installation on complex projects.\n, • Experience delivering mechanical projects within live, regulated or operationally sensitive environments; healthcare project delivery experience from a mechanical perspective is strongly advantageous.\n, • Strong planning, organisation, programme management and monitoring capability.\n, • Commercial awareness, with experience supporting cost reporting, risk identification, change control and budget performance.\n, • Experience working with NEC3 and/or NEC4 forms of contract.\n, • Confident communicator with the ability to engage effectively with clients, senior managers, supervisors, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors.\n, • High standard of written and verbal communication, numeracy and computer literacy.\n, • Able to prioritise workload, work under pressure, meet deadlines and manage stakeholder expectations.\n, • Strong focus on safety, quality, compliance, teamwork and continuous improvement.\n, • Adaptable, professional and resilient, with a practical approach to problem solving.\n, • Legal right to work in the UK.\n, • Full UK driving licence held continuously for 12 months or more, with no more than 6 points.\n, • Ability to pass an enhanced DBS check where required due to the nature of client sites visited.\n\n \n Qualifications and Certifications \n\n • Recognised building services or mechanical engineering qualification, such as ONC/HNC in Building Services Engineering, or equivalent experience.\n, • Building Services qualification, HNC desirable.\n, • APM or equivalent project management qualification desirable.\n, • IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification desirable\n\n \n SUSTAINABILTY \n MJ Quinn is committed to, and is investing in, a sustainable future as this is vital for the planet, our communities, customers, and business.
