With over 1,000 employees and a £150m turnover, we’re growing—and now looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to play a key role in our project delivery teams.\n\nThe RoleAs an Automation Engineer you'll be responsible for the design, programming, testing, and commissioning of automation and control systems across multiple projects. This role ensures automation solutions meet client requirements, comply with relevant standards and integrate seamlessly with electrical and mechanical systems.\nWhat You’ll Be Doing\n1) Technical Responsibilities - Automation Design & Programming\n\n Design and configure PLC programs, HMI/SCADA interfaces, I/O schemes, telemetry systems and network architectures for control panels, MCCs and plant-wide solutions.\n\nCollaborate with design engineers to ensure seamless integration with electrical schematics and mechanical assemblies.\n\nDevelop automation software that meets client specifications and project requirements. \n\nIdentify opportunities to improve automation processes, build efficiency, and system reliability. \n\nSupport the selection of hardware, instrumentation, and control devices. \n\nAttend site for surveys and commissioning activities often requiring staying away from home for short periods.\n\n2) Technical Support & Collaboration \n\nWork closely with the Engineering, Workshop, Wiring and Testing teams to ensure smooth delivery of automation systems. \n\nSupport the Automation Lead in multi-project planning and execution.\n\nProvide technical support to production teams regarding automation queries and build issues. \n\nPerform functional and operational testing of automation systems. \n\nSupport Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and site commissioning of software (SATs). \n\nTroubleshoot and resolve faults in PLC, HMI, and control systems.\n\n3) SHE&Q and Compliance \n\nEnsure all automation solutions conform to industrial standards and client-specific requirements. \n\nMaintain traceability of design changes, software versions, and documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures. \n\nSupport internal and external audits related to automation systems. \n\nPromote continuous improvement in automation design and delivery. \n\nEnsure all automation activities are performed safely in accordance with company and statutory H&S requirements. \n\nMaintain accurate project documentation, including automation systems (PLC / HMI / SCADA / Telemetry etc), test records, and commissioning reports. \n\nSupport risk assessments and method statements for automation works.\n\n4) Key Interfaces, Internal Interfaces:\n\nAutomation Lead / Technical Manager / Production Manager\n\nDesign & Engineering Teams (Electrical, automation and production) / Production Manager / Technical Manager / Quality Team\n\nWorkshop Wiring and Test engineering Teams\nExternal Interfaces:\n\nClients / required to undertake additional duties, consistent with the responsibilities and level of this role, beyond those specified above.\nWhat We’re Looking For\nEssential\n\nHands-on experience in PLC programming, HMI/SCADA design, and automation system implementation.\n\nExperience in testing, commissioning, and fault-finding of control panels and automation systems.\n\nExperience working from schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs to implement automation solutions.\n\nExperience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver electrical and automation projects.\n\nProven knowledge of PLC programming and HMI/SCADA configuration.\n\nMulti-platform PLC experience (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider).\n\nECS/CSCS card or equivalent site access certification.\nDesirable\n\nExperience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and client site commissioning.\n\nPrevious work in custom-built panels, MCCs, and automation systems.\n\nExperience in municipal, industrial process, or water sector automation projects.\n\nExperience liaising with clients, consultants, or third-party integrators on technical automation solutions.\n\nHNC/HND or Degree in Electrical, Control, Automation, Mechatronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.\n\n Understanding of BS EN (phone number removed):2021 and relevant electrical standards.\n\n Electrical safety awareness and training (e.g., safe isolation, workshop H&S).\n\n Experience with intelligent MCCs from Form 1 to Form 4 systems.\n\n Knowledge of networked industrial automation, IIoT, or remote
