About OneView Commerce Retailers with thousands of shops have had two options, and neither is good. Web-native platforms move fast but were never built for a shop floor. Legacy store systems were built for the shop floor but take a year to change anything. OneView Commerce is the third option: a headless commerce platform for physical retail that lets the world's largest retailers innovate just as quickly as the smaller ones. We ship store experiences that deploy fast out of the box, and we give retailers the freedom to build their own on top of a headless transaction engine engineered for the physical store rather than the browser. Our customers are global retailers who build on OneView because it lets them keep moving: new journeys, new channels, and new store formats ship continuously rather than waiting on the next multi-year programme. Founded in 2010 to close the gap between fast-moving e-commerce and slow-moving in-store systems, OneView's founding principle is a single view of customers, orders, and inventory throughout the shopping journey. That remains our mission as we enable retailers to deliver exceptional store experiences that build loyalty. We are a remote-first team with Viewers working across the globe, and we operate as a trusted provider of digital commerce systems for leading retailers. Position Summary OneView is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to take on the harder half of what a delivery team builds. The platform serves over a hundred thousand users across global retail estates, on terminals that have to keep taking payments when the connection drops and reconcile perfectly when it comes back. That is where the difficulty lives, and it is the work this role gets. Reporting to the VP of Engineering and working in a Scrum team alongside a Lead Software Engineer, you will design and build complex features and integrations end to end, from very little direction. Senior here means three things concretely. You take the problem nobody has scoped yet and come back with something defensible. You lead reviews of other people's work and leave the code better than the review found it. And you contribute to what the team chooses: the methods, the libraries, the tooling, argued on evidence rather than preference. You will mentor a Software Engineer, usually one at a time, and the measure is whether they got better rather than whether their tickets got closed. This is the rung below Lead Software Engineer and a deliberate step towards it, so the parts of that job you want more of are available to you. The Lead Software Engineer owns the team's standard, its improvement agenda, and its technical direction, and you are the person they will lean on most to shape all three. Bring them the problems worth solving, argue for what should change, and take the work on. The more of it you can carry, the more of it becomes yours. We use AI throughout our day-to-day work and expect you to find uses for it we have not thought of. We also expect you to be able to do this job well if it were switched off tomorrow, because the creativity, judgement, and relationships that make the work good are yours rather than the tool's. Responsibilities • Design and build complex features and integration services end to end, from little direction, for a platform running continuously across thousands of shops in multiple countries., • Take the hardest item on the team's backlog and be trusted with it., • Own the technical design for significant pieces of work. Write it down, take it to the team and the Lead Software Engineer, and change it on the strength of the argument rather than defending it. Design in performance, security, and resilience rather than retrofitting them., • Lead reviews of colleagues' work, and make review the place code gets better., • Contribute to the team's choices about methods, libraries, and tooling, argue for them on evidence, and bring the Lead Software Engineer the problems worth solving., • Work with the Product Owner to shape what gets built: challenge scope that is not worth its cost, surface the technical constraint before it becomes a surprise, and offer the cheaper option when there is one., • Write the tests that prove your work now and catch the regression later., • Run the technical investigations nobody else has time for: evaluate the options, prototype where that is what settles it, and come back with a recommendation the team can act on., • Break a large piece of work into something the team can deliver incrementally, so that value reaches shops in weeks rather than at the end of a quarter., • Estimate and sequence work honestly, and raise risk to a sprint commitment while there is still time to act on it., • Own your work in production: instrument it, watch it, and fix it when it misbehaves. At this scale a defect that occurs one time in ten thousand happens somewhere every day., • Mentor a Software Engineer, and make them better rather than doing their work for them., • Take part in incident response, on-call, and post-incident review for the systems your team owns, where the clock is measured against shops that cannot serve customers., • Document what you build well enough that somebody else can change it safely. Required skills & experience • 5+ years building production software, with a track record of delivering complex work independently., • Strong in a modern typed language such as TypeScript, Go, Java, Kotlin, Python, or C#., • Depth on either the client side, in a component framework such as React, Angular, or Vue, or on the service side., • Builds and consumes REST and event-driven interfaces, and knows when each is the right choice., • Public cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including managed and serverless compute patterns., • Data modelling across relational and document stores, and can explain why a query is slow., • Test-first practice. Writes tests as part of finishing work rather than as a later phase., • Ships through the team's CI/CD pipeline rather than around it, and can read a failing build., • Debugs a production problem from logs, traces, and metrics rather than by guessing., • Reviews code well. Raises the standard without becoming the reason the team is waiting., • Works from little direction. Takes an ambiguous requirement, asks the questions that resolve it, and produces something defensible., • Has mentored at least one engineer, and can say what changed for them., • AI-assisted development as normal practice, and can explain every line of generated code they ship. Preferred skills & experience • Experience in retail technology, or another domain where software runs in physical locations under real-world constraints., • Experience of offline or intermittently connected clients, where the transaction still has to be correct once the connection returns., • Has owned a service or component in production over a sustained period, through its problems as well as its build., • Performance profiling and optimisation on a live system, and can describe what they found and what they changed., • Infrastructure as code and pipeline work, with tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation., • Mobile or cross-platform client development., • Has influenced a technical decision beyond their own work, and can say how they made the case., • Has built agentic or AI-assisted development workflows, and can describe what they changed about how a team works. Why OneView Commerce Alongside the global retailers we already serve, we have just been selected by one of the largest store networks in the world to replace their legacy store system, and are actively pursuing more of the retailers who have decided that decades of accumulated inertia is a problem worth solving properly. The person in this role will be on that work from the start. Work of that size only moves quickly in a company built for it. Ours is. Our teams operate with real independence and the authority to set their own direction. Nobody here waits to be told what the priority is, and nobody needs a committee's permission to fix something that is plainly broken. We are always looking to change, to evolve, and to accelerate, and we do not merely encourage our people to identify what should be done differently; we expect it of them. When they do, they have the support of their team and of leadership to make the change stick. If you have spent time in a larger organisation where you could see improvement opportunities clearly and never got the room to implement them, that is the frustration we are built to remove. We are looking for people who find that prospect exciting. If you would rather be handed a roadmap than build one, this will not be the right fit. We're building a team that does great work and enjoys doing it, and it shows: OneView has been named one of Built In's Best Places to Work for three years in a row. Our leadership team brings decades of experience across software development, delivery, sales, and marketing, so the independence comes with people who know the terrain and will back your judgement. Join us as we work with global retail leaders to innovate everything. OneView Commerce is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran, or disability status. Engineering Manager - Knutsford Full time PortSwigger is a company built around a simple belief: security should empower people, not slow them down. We create world‑class tooling that helps security teams and developers uncover and fix real vulnerabilities, the kind that actually matter. Our products are crafted with care, backed by deep research, and shaped by a relentless drive to make the web safer for everyone. We’re a successful, engineering‑led organisation where small squads are empowered to take forward high‑leverage work in a suitable way. Curiosity fuels us, craftsmanship defines us, and mutual support keeps us growing together. Here, you’ll have real agency, clear direction, and the freedom to push boundaries, supported by thoughtful coaching and a culture that values learning as much as delivery. The Engineering Tribe builds the products, systems, and technical foundations that help PortSwigger enable the world to secure the web. Our engineering teams are small, empowered, and highly capable, working closely with Product, Research, Design, and each other to solve difficult problems with care and craft. We value deep technical thinking, fast learning, operational ownership, and pragmatic delivery, creating software that customers trust and that engineers are proud to own. We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a stream‑aligned engineering team in Knutsford. This is a high‑impact leadership role for someone who cares deeply about people, delivery, engineering quality, and customer outcomes. You’ll create the conditions for a team to do excellent work: clear direction, strong collaboration, sustainable flow, thoughtful technical investment, and an environment where engineers can grow. You’ll work closely with a Product Manager and Tech Lead to shape the team’s roadmap, make strategic trade‑offs, manage delivery risk, and ensure the team can discover, build, test, release, operate, and improve software with confidence. You’ll help the team move quickly and safely, using DORA metrics, operational learning, and customer feedback as signals for where to improve. This is not a command‑and‑control management role. You won’t succeed by directing tasks or owning every decision — you’ll succeed by building a team that doesn’t need you to. In practice, that means: • Coaching through questions, not answers — helping engineers reason through problems rather than solving problems for them., • Unblocking proactively — spotting and removing obstacles before the team has to escalate them., • Challenging assumptions and decisions — including your own — rather than rubber‑stamping them., • Supporting people through ambiguity and mistakes, not just through delivery. You’ll deliberately push decisions down to the people closest to the work, invest as much in 1:1s and feedback as in status updates, and keep connecting day‑to‑day work back to the customer and business outcomes it serves. Success looks like a team that’s more autonomous, more effective, and more connected to why the work matters — not one that simply does what it’s told. • Lead and develop a stream‑aligned engineering team, creating the conditions for high performance, high trust, and sustainable delivery., • Partner deeply with Product Management to shape priorities, calibrate scope, balance technical investment with feature delivery, and connect engineering work to customer and business outcomes., • Work closely with the Tech Lead as a complementary leadership pair, aligning people, delivery, technical direction, and engineering standards., • Own delivery effectiveness for the team, improving flow, predictability, deployability, release confidence, and operational readiness., • Help the team use DORA metrics and other delivery signals to understand and improve deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate, and mean time to recovery., • Protect time for discovery, experimentation, and assumption validation so the team builds the right things, not just things right., • Reduce unnecessary hand‑offs and cross‑team friction, proactively managing dependencies before they become delivery risks., • Ensure the team owns production software responsibly, including runbooks, service‑level indicators, incident learning, rollback confidence, and continuous improvement., • Coach engineers toward autonomy, giving clear feedback, supporting development, and addressing performance issues early and constructively., • Hire and develop strong engineers, contributing to role definition, assessment, interview quality, candidate experience, and hiring decisions., • Make work visible to stakeholders, communicate trade‑offs clearly, and publish work in progress early enough to invite useful challenge., • Contribute to the broader engineering organisation by improving how teams interact, share learning, and deliver value together. What we’re looking for • Strong software engineering background, with enough technical depth to reason about architecture, delivery trade‑offs, operational risk, and engineering quality., • Significant experience leading software engineering teams, including at least several years in a people leadership role., • Experience leading teams through meaningful change, not only maintaining steady state., • Experience in a stream‑aligned or product‑aligned team that owns delivery end to end, from discovery through to production operation., • Strong understanding of modern software delivery practices, including CI/CD, testing, observability, deployability, and operational readiness., • Evidence of improving delivery flow, DORA metrics, release confidence, incident response, or sustainable engineering practices., • Experience partnering closely with Product Managers to shape priorities, calibrate scope, assess risk, and balance customer value with technical investment., • Experience working effectively with Tech Leads, creating space for technical leadership while holding shared accountability for outcomes., • Strong people leadership capability, including coaching, feedback, career development, hiring, and performance management., • Ability to make progress in ambiguity, break large work into deliverable increments, and communicate trade‑offs clearly., • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to surface risk early and manage dependencies across teams., • Genuine motivation for engineering management as a craft: growing people, enabling autonomy, improving systems of work, and helping teams succeed., • Based within reach of our Knutsford office and happy to work in person as part of an office‑first culture. You’ll lead with clarity, humility, and care. You’ll share work early, invite challenge, and make evidence‑weighted decisions. You’ll be trusted to create direction, support the team, and hold a high bar without micromanaging. You’ll be expected to balance delivery and learning: improving how the team ships, while also protecting discovery and feedback loops so the team keeps solving the right problems. You’ll operate as a true co‑owner with Product Management and a strong partner to the Tech Lead, helping the team make high‑quality decisions and deliver meaningful outcomes. At PortSwigger, we believe people should be paid what they’re truly worth. We offer competitive salaries, generous pension contributions, and share in the company’s success. Alongside this, you’ll benefit from healthcare contributions, generous holiday allowance, and a strong focus on learning and development, including our buy‑any‑book scheme and dedicated time for growth. We care deeply about creating an environment where people can do the best work of their lives. #J-18808-Ljbffr

Success looks like a team that’s more autonomous, more effective, and more connected to why the work matters — not one that simply does what it’s told. • Lead and develop a stream-aligned engineering team, creating the conditions for high performance, high trust, and sustainable delivery., • Partner deeply with Product Management to shape priorities, calibrate scope, balance technical investment with feature delivery, and connect engineering work to customer and business outcomes., • Work closely with the Tech Lead as a complementary leadership pair, aligning people, delivery, technical direction, and engineering standards., • Own delivery effectiveness for the team, improving flow, predictability, deployability, release confidence, and operational readiness., • Help the team use DORA metrics and other delivery signals to understand and improve deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate, and mean time to recovery., • Protect time for discovery, experimentation, and assumption validation so the team builds the right things, not just things right., • Reduce unnecessary hand‑offs and cross‑team friction, proactively managing dependencies before they become delivery risks., • Ensure the team owns production software responsibly, including runbooks, service‑level indicators, incident learning, rollback confidence, and continuous improvement., • Coach engineers toward autonomy, giving clear feedback, supporting development, and addressing performance issues early and constructively., • Hire and develop strong engineers, contributing to role definition, assessment, interview quality, candidate experience, and hiring decisions., • Make work visible to stakeholders, communicate trade‑offs clearly, and publish work in progress early enough to invite useful challenge., • Contribute to the broader engineering organisation by improving how teams interact, share learning, and deliver value together.
