Job Title: Engineering Manager\n\nLocation: Nottingham, Nottinghamshire\n\nSalary: Up to £65,000 (DOE)\n\nJob Type: Full-time, Permanent (direct with employer)\n\nWorking Hours: Early shift: 06:00 am - 15:00 pm (with flexibility as required)\n\nBenefits: A highly competitive benefits package is on offer and will be discussed in detail during an initial, confidential conversation.\n\nOverview\n\nThe Flavour Network are currently supporting a growing food manufacturing business in their search for an Engineering Manager to take full ownership of the site’s engineering function. This is a unique opportunity to step into a role where you will build systems, structure, and a team from the ground up. As the Engineering Manager, you’ll play a critical part in transforming engineering from a reactive function into a proactive, high-performing operation that supports production at scale.\n\nThis role will suit a hands-on leader who enjoys solving complex problems, driving performance improvements, and building a culture of accountability and engineering excellence.\n\nKey Responsibilities for the Engineering Manager\n\n * Build, recruit, and lead the Engineering team, setting clear standards and direction\n\n * Develop and implement a full preventative maintenance (PPM) and asset care programme\n\n * Own and drive engineering KPIs, including downtime, MTTR, MTBF, and PPM adherence\n\n * Lead both reactive and planned maintenance activities to maximise equipment reliability\n\n * Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve line efficiency\n\n * Oversee installation, commissioning, and optimisation of machinery and equipment\n\n * Ensure full compliance with health & safety and food manufacturing standards\n\n * Manage engineering budget, contractors, and supplier relationships\n\n * Establish and maintain an organised workshop and effective spares system\n\n * Work cross-functionally with Production, NPD, and Operations on trials and scale-up projects\n\n * Embed a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement\n\nCandidate Requirements for the Engineering Manager\n\n * Strong mechanical and electrical engineering background within manufacturing\n\n * Proven experience in an engineering leadership or supervisory role\n\n * Experience developing or managing preventative maintenance (PPM) systems\n\n * Solid understanding of production equipment (conveyors, mixers, weighers, chillers, packaging lines)\n\n * Exposure to automation and PLC-controlled systems\n\n * Experience managing budgets, contractors, and external suppliers\n\n * Strong knowledge of health & safety within a regulated environment (ideally food manufacturing)\n\n * Strong communication skills with the ability to lead and influence teams\n\n * Hands-on approach with strong problem-solving capability\n\n * Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively\n\nIf you are an experienced engineering professional looking for an opportunity to build, lead, and make a lasting impact within a growing manufacturing business, we would love to hear from you
