The RNLI is a charity that saves lives at sea through lifeboat search and rescue, lifeguards, and water safety education. The charity is now seeking a Coastal Estates Manager to join its Estates Team in Scotland. The role provides facilities management, building maintenance and civil engineering expertise to support the RNLI’s lifesaving operations through the effective management of a diverse coastal estate. Key Responsibilities • Being the first point of responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the area’s Estates portfolio, including lifeboat stations, slipways, moorings, support centres and lifeguard facilities., • Acting as the Estates and Facilities technical subject matter expert across maintenance, construction and building services., • Undertaking triennial condition inspections and delivering pre-planned maintenance programmes., • Instructing external consultants to carry out specialist inspections, design, specification, cost consultancy, tender documentation and project management activities., • Establishing and managing a panel of contractors with relevant skills and competencies, supported by service level agreements and key performance indicators., • Utilising external contractors to complete preventative and reactive maintenance and modification works to agreed timescales and priorities., • Ensuring that building works are delivered with the necessary permissions, managing external stakeholders such as landowners and regulators., • Monitoring all works to ensure safe delivery aligned with specifications, tender documents and relevant legislation, including CDM 2015., • Ensuring all Estates buildings and assets remain compliant with legislation and RNLI policy and are always safe and operational., • Managing the annual programme of lifeguard unit installations and retrievals, including liaison with landowners and stakeholders., • Supporting delivery of new lifeguard units, buildings and capital projects, working alongside Estates Engineers and the Regional Estates Manager., • Providing feedback and lessons learned from projects, maintenance works and condition surveys to support continuous improvement of the Estates Briefing Document., • Managing a delegated budget of approximately £450k and supporting the preparation of annual budgets., • Fulfilling RNLI Health and Safety policy obligations and ensuring the safety and well-being of colleagues, contractors and visitors. Skills and Experience • Educated to HNC level or equivalent in Building Construction or Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience., • Practical experience of managing buildings and construction or maintenance works at a professional level., • Strong understanding of facilities management, building maintenance and civil engineering practices., • Ability to manage planned maintenance, reactive repairs and multiple concurrent projects across varied geography and technical areas., • Skilled in providing practical engineering solutions safely and efficiently., • Strong organisational and project coordination abilities., • Excellent communication skills for engaging internal and external stakeholders., • Comfortable working autonomously and making sound judgements., • Willingness to travel and occasionally stay away from home. Salary: £41,242 - £48,520 per annum + benefits + vehicle. Location: Home-based with travel within the region.
