A welcoming and well-resourced specialist school is seeking a caring and committed Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), many of whom are non-verbal. About the Role In this highly supportive, structured environment, you will: • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and emotional security, • Support pupils who are primarily non-verbal using communication approaches such as PECS, visuals, AAC, gestures and modelling, • Assist the class teacher in delivering a curriculum tailored to pupils’ individual needs, • Promote pupils’ independence, social interaction and communication skills, • Support both one-to-one and small-group learning, • Create a calm, nurturing space where pupils can explore, learn and communicate at their own pace, • Have experience supporting children with SEN, particularly autism or SLCN (desirable but not essential), • Are patient, resilient and nurturing in your approach, • Can build positive relationships with pupils who may communicate non-verbally, • Are comfortable using structured routines, visual supports and sensory-friendly app...
