Duration: 6 months Rate: £70 per hour inside IR35 via Umbrella Location: Amesbury Hybrid (travel to Farnborough / Malvern may be required ad hoc) SC Clearance / eligibility required Being a go-to individual within the Allocated Design Team & surrounding SME's, the Senior Engineer – Mechanical Designer’s main role will be leading the delivery of Mechanical Design solutions and taking ownership of delivery on complex tasks requiring high integrity engineering and managing unusual tasks involving significant challenges. They will explore and test the problem space thoroughly, guide others in generating their own hardware solutions, and be prepared to lead and coordinate the reviews and testing of these ideas at design reviews and group critiques to delight customers. • Reviews: Guide others, corral SME's at design reviews, hold pre‑reviews, chair reviews for internal tasks or lower‑level single customers, expose compelling arguments, deliver persuasive positions, chair engineering reviews, set visual standards., • Delivery: Contribute to continuous improvement, write detailed reports, manage technical teams, understand verification & validation needs, set up requirement gathering, grasp regulatory environment, strategise to meet customer needs, maintain commercial awareness, adopt prototyping mentality, forecast overspend, work with PM on risk, proactively mitigate risks, communicate clearly, understand team dynamics, focus on value proposition, oversee TDPs, support creative confidence, apply design‑thinking methodology, value‑stream map, sign off estimates, use the seven wastes, tailor solutions to budget, set pace & cadence., • Technical: Advise and present to customers, stakeholders and peers; innovate in problem solving; maintain measurement integrity; negotiate with customers; trade requirements with PM/Systems engineer; critique delivery strategies; possess manufacturing knowledge; understand regulatory governance; use advanced CAD; deeply understand technical drawings; apply best practice; use specialist software such as FEA and CFD., • Familiar with safety engineering tools, compile HAZID, contribute to Design Safety Cases, research corporate policies, manage quality assurance and authoring processes, understand statistical safety approaches, hold Technical Lead LCM2 delegation, draw sign‑off and release for HCC2 drawings, expertise in tolerancing and dimension styles, may hold Design Cert (QDC) signature., • Coatings, Corrosion, Materials Science, Materials Selection, Concept Design & Development, Requirements Capture & Analysis, Regulations, Project Lifecycles, Hazard Identification, Safety Cases & Safety Management systems, Analytical, Simulation and Modelling Techniques., • HNC/HND/Degree in Aeronautical, Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design or Product Design (or equivalent experience)., • Experience designing technical hardware solutions – ideally from a regulated industry requiring complex problem solving, precise tolerances, or specific domain knowledge., • Significant experience creating technical drawings from 3D models, working with suppliers, manufacturers, customers and subject‑matter experts., • Significant experience creating concepts and generating solution ideas, exposing them to critique., • Deep understanding of budgets, group behaviour, patterns of behaviour and using this to deliver on time, quality and cost., • Knowledge and understanding of engineering fundamentals – materials, stress awareness, mechanism design, design principles, electrical awareness, etc., • Formal training or experience in HAZID/Design for Safety/Regulations such as CA Marking and exposure to manufacturing environments., • Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design degree or equivalent., • Example GCSEs: Maths, English, Science, Technology, business studies., • Example A Levels: Science, Design & Technology, Art, Business studies, Physics, Maths., • CEng Level against UK SPEC and membership of a recognised institution with CPD. #J-18808-Ljbffr
