Location This is a predominantly site-based role (Mainly Central London with some travel to surrounding regions as required). The role will also require ad-hoc travel to the MAZE main office in Farringdon. Reporting To Head of SHEQ The role includes escalation of significant risk, non-compliance, or systemic issues through the Head of SHEQ where necessary. Company Maze Engineering Ltd Role Purpose The Health & Safety Advisor will support the delivery, implementation, and continual improvement of MAZE’s Health & Safety management arrangements across live construction projects. The role is hands on, and site focused, providing competent advice, monitoring compliance, supporting project teams, and helping embed a positive safety culture aligned to Company Values, UK legislation, ISO 45001, and Tier-1 client expectations. This role is supportive, advisory, and improvement focused, not enforcement based. Key Responsibilities 1. Site Health & Safety Support • Carry out planned and reactive site inspections across M&E projects., • Identify hazards, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions, agreeing practical corrective actions and working with site teams to implement these., • Support Contractors and project teams with day-to-day H&S queries., • Monitor compliance with RAMS, permits to work, and safe systems of work., • Support incident, near-miss, and positive observation reporting. 2. RAMS & Risk Management • Review and assist in the development of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)., • Ensure RAMS are task-specific, suitable & sufficient, and aligned with site conditions., • Support pre-start briefings, inductions, task briefings, and toolbox talks as required., • Assist with risk reviews following incidents or change in scope. 3. Compliance & Assurance • Support compliance with UK H&S legislation, ACOPS and industry best practice guidance., • Assist with internal ISO audits, inspections, and client audits., • Track, support, and verify the close out of actions arising from audits and inspections. 4. Incident & Near-Miss Support • Support the investigation of incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions., • Assist with proportionate root cause analysis., • Support the preparation of reports and learning outcomes., • Promote learning and prevention, not blame. 5. Training, Engagement & Culture • Deliver or support toolbox talks, briefings, and safety communications., • Promote positive safety behaviours and engagement onsite., • Support workforce involvement in hazard and positive observation reporting., • Act as a visible and approachable H&S presence on site. 6. Systems & Documentation • Support the ongoing development and use of MAZE’s H&S management system., • Assist with document control, record keeping, and digital reporting tools., • Head of SHEQ., • Project Directors., • Project Teams., • Site Supervisors., • Subcontractors & Supply Chain. Essential • NEBOSH General Certificate (preferably NEBOSH Construction Certificate) or equivalent., • Construction site experience (preferably M&E environments)., • Good working knowledge of UK construction H&S legislation., • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently at all levels., • NEBOSH Construction Certificate, • IOSH Membership (TechIOSH / CertIOSH / CMIOSH) or working towards., • Accident Investigation Training., • Fire Risk Assessment Qualification., • Behavioural Safety Training., • First Aid at Work/Mental Health First Aid., • Experience working with Tier-1 contractors., • Familiarity with ISO 45001 or formal H&S management systems., • Practical, solutions focused mindset., • Comfortable working in a high standards environment with direct professional challenge and accountability., • Confident but non-confrontational communicator., • Able to challenge unsafe practices professionally and constructively., • Organised, proactive, and detail conscious., • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider SHEQ team., • Opportunity to grow within a developing SHEQ function., • Exposure to complex, high-profile construction projects.
