Job DescriptionDescription: Position Overview: We are seeking an enthusiastic and organized Summer Camp Counselor to join our team and work under our Programs Department Manager to plan, coordinate, and manage all camp (IDD & Non-IDD) programs. Successful Summer Camp Counselor will plan, coordinate and manage all camp program, approve all camp activities.. The camp Counselor is responsible for communicating with all parents, guardians, counselors, and camp staff prior to, during and after the summer camp. Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide small group or 1:1 behavioral & academic support to a student with special needs, • Provide 1:1 student support based on specific needs outlined in his/her IEP, • Provide inclusion support to students with special needs within the activities aligned for the program., • Follow behavioral intervention plans and implement plans to ensure student learning and program behavior goals are met, • Confer and collaborate with team to ensure accommodations are met in inclusive settings; and, • Implement a daily/weekly schedule for your youth., • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, archery, canoeing, Family Night, etc. This includes time spent on the bus., • Identify and respond to any participant’s behaviors that may arise., • Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter., • Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Program Leadership., • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance., • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the program., • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your participant’s safety and their whereabouts at all times., • Help guide Junior Staff and Volunteers to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills., • If applicable, maintain constant surveillance of the pool area/body of water, know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately. Attend monthly in-service trainings., • See program specific addendum for program details., • Complete and hand in all required program paperwork by deadline. · Training Schedule: Monday through Friday from 09:00am to 05:00pm · Regular Schedule: Monday through Friday from 08:00am to 05:00pm · Orientation Schedule: - Once a week orientation from 05:00pm to 07:00pm Requirements: Requirements Qualifications: • Upon hire, completion of a criminal background check and must obtain CPR, First Aide/AED certification., • 18+ years of age, • Poses a high school diploma or equivalent,, • An associate's (or higher) degree; AND, • Experience working with students with substantial behavioral needs;, • An unwavering commitment to and belief in the mission of ASun Star, including ASun Star’s values and educational model., • The ability to focus and thrive in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment., • The ability to work effectively in a team environment and the willingness and desire to support others in doing their best work., • An open mind that reflects the ability to adjust and adapt to change, a willingness to problem solve, and an interest in developing new ideas and programs.
