Job DescriptionJob Title: Field Service Millwright / Pump Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on servicing, diagnosing, and repairing pumps and rotating equipment both in the field and in the shop. You will work primarily at customer sites across the Houston and Gulf Coast area to pull, align, recondition, and overhaul a wide variety of pump types, with shop-based work when field assignments are not scheduled. The position combines hands-on mechanical work, precision measurements, and occasional machining and welding to ensure reliable operation of critical rotating equipment. Responsibilities • Recondition, repair, refurbish, overhaul, and dismantle a wide range of pumps, including split case, overhung, horizontal, vertical, multistage, deep well, reciprocating, and Tier 1, 2, and 3 pumps., • Work in the field approximately 70% of the time at client sites and refineries throughout the Houston and Gulf Coast area, with occasional national travel as needed., • Pull pumps from service, perform precision alignment, and diagnose mechanical issues, repairing equipment on-site when possible and returning pumps to the shop when necessary., • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to guide repair, assembly, and refurbishment work., • Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and scales to verify tolerances and ensure quality workmanship., • Perform balancing of bearings and work on seals, gaskets, and other critical pump components., • Carry out field machining tasks as needed to support pump and rotating equipment repairs., • Operate manual machining equipment, including lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, VTL (Vertical Turret Lathe), and HBM (Horizontal Boring Mill)., • Use acetylene torches, impact wrenches, overhead cranes, forklifts, and other shop and field equipment safely and effectively., • Perform welding tasks using MIG, TIG, and Heliarc processes as required for repair and fabrication work., • Conduct laser alignment and other alignment methods to ensure proper installation and operation of pumps and rotating equipment., • Assemble, disassemble, and overhaul compressors, turbines, gearboxes, and related rotating equipment when required., • Collaborate with shop teams of machinists, pump mechanics, and welders to complete complex repair projects efficiently., • Complete an initial 90-day period working in the shop to become fully acclimated to company processes, equipment, and standards before working directly with customers in the field., • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work area., • Document work performed and communicate equipment status and repair recommendations clearly to internal teams and customers.Essential Skills, • At least 7 years of experience as a pump mechanic or millwright working with pumps and rotating equipment., • Proven field service experience performing pump and rotating equipment repairs at customer sites., • Extensive hands-on experience with multiple pump types, including vertical and horizontal, split case, overhung, horizontal, multistage, deep well, reciprocating, and Tier 1–3 pumps., • Demonstrated ability to repair, refurbish, overhaul, and dismantle pumps and related rotating equipment., • Strong blueprint reading skills with the ability to interpret drawings and technical specifications., • Proficiency using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and scales., • Experience performing pump alignments, including laser alignment and other alignment methods., • Ability to perform overhauls, repairs, and assembly work on pumps, compressors, turbines, and gearboxes., • Comfort working in both field and shop environments, including refineries and industrial facilities., • Capability to travel to client sites within the Houston and Gulf Coast area and occasionally nationally.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Field machining experience supporting pump and rotating equipment repairs., • Experience with balancing bearings and working on seals and gaskets., • Manual machining experience on equipment such as VTL (Vertical Turret Lathe) and HBM (Horizontal Boring Mill)., • Ability to operate lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, and similar shop equipment., • Experience using acetylene torches, impact wrenches, overhead cranes, and forklifts safely., • Welding experience with MIG, TIG, and Heliarc processes., • Familiarity with compressors, turbines, gearboxes, and other rotating equipment in addition to pumps., • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and commitment to quality workmanship., • Ability to work extended hours, including 10-hour shifts and regular overtime, with occasional Sunday work paid at double time.Why Work Here? Work Environment You will split your time between a busy, medium-sized shop and field locations at client sites and refineries, primarily in the Houston and Gulf Coast area with occasional national travel. The shop is climate-controlled (air conditioned) but currently tight on space due to high volumes of work, with plans to move into a larger facility in the near future. Day shift staffing includes multiple manual machinists, pump mechanics, and a welder, and night shift has its own dedicated machinists, pump mechanics, and a welder, creating a collaborative and skilled team environment. The role involves extensive use of industrial equipment such as manual lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, VTLs, HBMs, acetylene torches, impact wrenches, overhead cranes, and forklifts, as well as precision measuring tools and laser alignment systems. Standard day shift hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with Saturday hours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; the night shift typically runs Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with Saturday hours from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Both shifts include two paid breaks and an unpaid lunch, and you can expect to work 10-hour days and regularly achieve 50 to 60 hours per week, with occasional Sundays paid at double time. A company truck with a company credit card is provided for field work. The dress code requires steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, reflecting the industrial and safety-focused nature of the environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brookside Village, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.00/hr.
