Job Description Employment Type: Full-Time | Hourly | Non-Exempt Pay Range: $28.50 - $40.71 Location: Vigor Marine CM San Diego, 1995 Bay Front Street, San Diego, CA 92113 Who We Are Vigor Marine CM San Diego, a Vigor Marine Group company, builds on the proud legacy of Continental Maritime of San Diego (CMSD) to stand as a vital force on San Diego’s working waterfront. As a certified Master Ship Repair Contractor for the U.S. Navy, our skilled professionals have successfully completed hundreds of ship repair and modernization projects for the Navy and Military Sealift Command. We perform maintenance and modernization on all classes of major surface vessels, including CVN, CG and DDG, as well as amphibious ships such as LHD, LHA, LSD, LPD and auxiliary ships. Our work spans a full range of Combatant, Hull, Mechanical and Electrical, and Habitability systems, supporting the readiness and mission success of the U.S. Fleet. Position Specifics The Electrician is responsible for maintain working knowledge of all shipboard electrical systems and the ability to adapt to a variety of situations and the capability to work in any environment onboard a ship; ability to use present skills to solve complex problems in any electrical system encountered; performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position. Minimum Requirements • Trade or military schooling and thorough knowledge shipboard electronics., • Experienced with power generation, steam or gas turbine, motor driven, and static sources., • Strong background in electro-mechanical skillset., • High School diploma or equivalent., • Performs maintenance and repair of generators, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, alarm and lighting circuits., • Conducts insulation resistance measurements of electrical cables to determine condition and effects repairs or replacements as required., • Disassembles motors for inspection and cleaning., • Installs and repairs electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures., • Inspects and tests electrical equipment., • Cleans electrical equipment and parts by steam cleaning, dipping, and baking., • Ensures proper installation of gages, switches, and thermometers. Verifies instrument calibration requirements in applicable NAVSEA documentation to determine if the instrument requires calibration., • Secures appropriate tools for each assigned job., • Oversees accurate reading and interpreting of test information., • Counts and places wires with precision., • Ensures daily clean-up of work site., • Maintains constant safety awareness., • Performs other related duties as assigned., • Complete understanding of electronic components and circuitry., • Must know all NAVSEA STD items pertaining to electrical trade., • Knowledgeable of power distribution and equipment., • Retain a good understanding of machinery used onboard ships., • Able to read/understand electrical drawings and schematics, • Ability to recognize electrical or electronic devices and circuitry used throughout the Maritime industry., • Ability to utilize past experience in new situations to create workable solutions, • Complies with all Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security Policies and Procedures, • Demonstrates the highest standards of professional and ethical behavior, putting the company values and commitments at the forefront of decisions and actions., • Fosters openness and early detection of possible ethics, compliance, and contractual issues to support early intervention of nonconformities and/or compliance violations., • Fulfills all training and development activities in accordance with designated deadlines., • Contributes to the development of subordinates within the work group., • Ensures the quality standards are adhered to by him/her and other subordinates within the work group. Physical Requirements • Frequently moves throughout the shipyard., • Work at heights and in confined spaces., • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs/ladders/ramps, aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces., • Must be able to move heavy equipment and boxes, weighing up to 50 pounds., • May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams., • Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment., • May be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
