Job Description Sous Chef – High-End Waterfront Restaurant & Catering City Island, Bronx, NY $60,000–$80,000 Salary Car Required – Local Candidates Only A well-established, high-end waterfront restaurant and catering operation in City Island is seeking a hands-on Sous Chef to serve as the culinary lead’s right hand and run day-to-day kitchen execution. This is a working leadership role for a confident chef who can take ownership of service, support restaurant and catering production, and operate independently in a tight-knit, member-facing environment. This is NOT a corporate hotel role. This is a quality-driven, execution-focused kitchen. The Role You will support and help oversee: • Restaurant service (5 days/week, 20–80 covers per night), • Smaller-scale catering & private events (50–80 guests typical), • Daily prep production and team delegation You must be able to lead service confidently without heavy supervision. Key Responsibilities • Build and execute prep lists, • Delegate clearly to kitchen staff, • Assist with food cost control (target 30% or below), • Track inventory, ordering, and par levels, • Expedite service and ensure polished presentation, • Work the line during peak hours, • Execute restaurant + catering menus simultaneously, • Maintain strong timing and pacing (critical), • Minimize waste and maintain cost awareness, • Use Toast POS ️ Culinary Expectations • Strong restaurant background REQUIRED, • Mastery of fundamentals (steak temps, seafood cookery, sauces, execution), • High attention to detail, • Scratch cooking mindset (dressings, sauces, components made in-house), • Creative but grounded, elevated yet approachable food Culture Fit This is a tight-knit, guest-facing environment where relationships matter. You must be: • Personable, • Mature and reliable, • Calm under pressure, • Detail-oriented, • Self-managed and accountable High standards, but no micromanagement culture. Schedule • Wednesday–Sunday, • Typical hours: 11:30am–7:30pm (can run later), • Latest close: 9:00pm, • Monday & Tuesday off, • Salaried role , balanced environment (no burnout culture) Compensation • $60,000–$80,000 salary (based on experience), • No benefits, • Strong creative input and autonomy, • Direct mentorship from seasoned ownership LOCATION – NON-NEGOTIABLE City Island, Bronx • MUST have a car, • Public transportation will not work, • Long-distance (2-hour) commutes will not work Ideal candidates live within 30–60 minutes.
