SUMMARY DESCRIPTION The NYCLU seeks an experienced, innovative, and dynamic racial justice legal expert who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced organization. The candidate should have the ability to skillfully implement and/or support the NYCLU’s interdepartmental approach to racial justice and broad docket of civil rights and civil liberties issues. This position will play a key role in executing the NYCLU’s Racial Justice Center’s strategic priorities. The staff attorney will have a particular focus on the intersectionality of racial justice with NYCLU priority areas, such as environmental racism, Indigenous rights, and restorative justice. The staff attorney will utilize a range of strategies to advance racial justice in New York State, including legal research, identifying legislative priorities and threats, joining, and seeking new litigation, and civic engagement, including submitting public comments, testifying at hearings, Know Your Rights education, movement lawyering, coalition development, and strategic communications. This position is situated in NYCLU’s Racial Justice Center and directly reports to the Racial Justice Center Director. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Independently review state and local legislation and engage in related legislative advocacy and lobbying in connection with the Racial Justice Center strategic priorities., • Developing and conducting litigation in federal and state courts and in administrative forums. The Director of Molecular Diagnostics serves as the CLIA Laboratory Director for NYGC's clinical molecular diagnostics laboratory. This role provides clinical and scientific leadership for a CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory performing next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based genetic and oncology testing. The Director is responsible for the clinical validity, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence of all laboratory testing activities. This includes oversight of assay development and validation, quality management systems, regulatory compliance, personnel competency, and clinical interpretation and reporting of molecular diagnostic tests. The Director ensures compliance with CLIA, New York State Department of Health (NYS CLEP), CAP, and other applicable federal and state regulations, including licensure requirements for laboratories providing testing services across multiple U.S. states. Criminal Justice Reform Through our criminal justice reform pillar, the Institute is working to create a rational and effective criminal justice system that (1) strengthens communities by treating people, particularly communities of color and the most vulnerable among us, fairly and equitably; (2) provides alternatives to incarceration, particularly for youth; (3) protects constitutional rights; (4) ensures racial equality; and (5) transforming policing and public safety. The Institute is a member of the Independent Monitoring Team overseeing reforms to the Newark Police Department in response to a federal consent decree entered into between the Department of Justice and the City of Newark. Through this work, the Institute monitors reforms concerning community policing and bias-free policing while also serving as the primary community liaison between the monitoring process and the Newark community. Even as we implement reforms to create accountable policing, the Institute is simultaneously rethinking the entire institution of policing and is working toward reducing law enforcement’s footprint in our communities, with a focus on what community members need to feel – and be – safe and protected. Position Overview We seek a results-driven, dynamic, and experienced fundraising professional to join our Development team. The Institutional Relations Officer is a crucial frontline fundraising role for the Brennan Center. You will join a high-performing Development team that has raised $50-60 million in the last several fiscal years. The team is organized around three principal revenue sources: institutional donors, major donors (individuals and family foundations), and small and midlevel donors.
